A terribly difficult decision for the commission. There is club and player support. Assuming the health aspect is ticked off. They’re most likely weighing up iffy optics on playing, compared to international sports, against the devestating financial effects of a break ---- Tom Browne

Hard to see Gillon not getting his way at this stage...

All 18 clubs urge AFL to push ahead with Round 1 as announcement looms

I know i am in the minority, but this is crazy.
but i will watch those crunching tackles and see the odd bit of saliva flying through the air...

Got to please the sponsors i suppose, and all those betting agencies

Devastating financial effects outweighs optics IMO - assuming the government and medical fraternity believe it's ok to play.

I am sympathetic to your views also, and at the risk of trolling also think in these times, the Top level AFL will be a huge comfort to many as the only link to normalcy. Aussie rules has a major sociological impact, even to those not interested.

It must however only be done if safe.

Two examples, again, not related to the current situation or comparable, but to illustrate  (sort of) the game's use:

1. In World War 2, the Australia forces attack on the Italians lines in Libya commenced with the assies kicking a football into no-man's-land as a signal to attack.

Just an example.

2. Another is Chicken Smallhorn winning the Changi Brownlow.

What's a few old relatives between friends.......

You can bet Collingwood, and Richmond will get the blockbusters as home games next year, they will cry to the AFL that they took a huge financial hit from this year, the MFC voice is dumb.

Not AFL related but a case for not playing during COVID-19

Dozens warned to 'remain vigilant' as Sydney rugby player tests positive for COVID-19, having shown symptoms the day after a match.

Teammates, opponents and officials face 14 days of self-isolation and a nervous wait for themselves and their families after a Sydney University rugby player returned a positive test for COVID-19.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the player took part in the Australian Club Championship on Saturday.

The player began showing symptoms on Sunday.

And that is how you will know why any "concerns" they express will be rehearsed garbage.

Clubs would know already what is happening and all signs are they are getting ready to play. I'm sure the AFL want to roll out a more comprehensive plan and hence are taking a little more time ... including some positive news on ways for members and supporters can watch the games

I know its totally selfish, but geez i hope they play.

Its not just me is it?

Letting ‘optics’ decide whether the football season commences tomorrow is such a bad look.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
