Id like to see someone with drone skills do a similar presentation over Fishermans Bend/ Port Melbourne or Williamstown. Im pretty sure you could see similar potential. The FB board does have some pretty impressive visuals on their website and an apparently measured and structured development program.

Caulfield certainly has public transport and access over FB/PM or W but again FB particularly as a greenfield site has great potential to curate transport services to a new space incorporating entertainment/ sports /retail and corporate services.

Similar concerns to others about the racing industry involvement as they have never been seen as a benevolent partner with competing bodies. While others are seeing some mutual benefits they are based on MFC being an attractive list. Not sure Id like this as a business model going forward. 

 I will be interested in the answers to my questions to the board which will provide some clarity to the discussions past and future.

To me here's  your conundrum re FB...

At Caulfield there's a huge tract of land that's been underutilised.....for a while.

It has very limited roles suited to development going forward. Rediscovering this acreage as a sports mecca is its ideal new persona.

Over at FB ?? The most expensive use of land in any redevelopment is as open recreational use. Any developer will only ever allocate the barest of minmums according to what ever overlays and caveats applicable.  $ for $ anything at FB will be horrendously expensive as compared Caulfield.  

I can understand some might look at it...but to be frank FB has no logic .

The very same reason Waverley disappeared... it was worth more as housing... FB is same same. 

The ONLY thing the inside of CRC is suited to is Sporting and low rise event use.

It's a no brainer imo

Surprised no one else has mentioned the rumour I've heard about our competition for use of the Caulfield site. Given the demons membership base I'd imagine it would be a conflicting choice for some members.

How my mind works when I see posts by @dpositive lobbying for Fishermen's Bend/Port Melbourne ...

I wasn’t aware there was competition. Worst news I’ve heard in a while as the dees don’t usually win much head to head with other clubs. AFL or another code?

i have a feeling ds meant to say opposition rather than competition

otherwise it reads more like a riddle

so, the club will need to get accustomed to this as many other clubs have

so, why don't the club be proactive and be more receptive to allowing suporters to training now.?

 This could work to their advantage, not only to attracting more members (now and in future) , but also open ways for members to contribute financially to pecific supporter facilities at caulfield. e.g. i'd be happy to donate to a special fund to set up supporter terraced seating etc (separate to any supporter funding in general for the caulfield developmen),  because i would get some direct benefit from it.

There was a fair bit of opposition when we had the pokies but it didn't amount to much until the clubs took it upon themselves to start exiting out of the venture's ... many are still heavily involved though (Hawthorn?) Stand corrected on that

And who boycotts Coles & Woolies knowing their massive involvement with pokies?  

But at around about that same time, the clubs and the AFL started getting all cosy with the betting agencies so there's always something

We don't live in a perfect world and if we don't go to Caulfield we're probably stuck with where we are (and that wouldn't particulary bother me as the facilities we've currently got are more than adequate) 

But if it's not going to cost us much going into a new facility, the supporters getting their heads around us being involved with a racing club is no big deal.  You can't please everyone 

Besides which, we all have choices and the average supporter rarely ventures to training anyway

Oddly enough, despite us potentially being involved with a racing club, we'd almost certainly get a lot more supporters venturing to training (location, mod cons etc)

Our facilities are NOT more than adequate.  We share facilities at AAMI with 3 other codes with multiple teams themselves, and have 4 teams of our own. 

When you lose two finals by a mere 9 points then having something better than what we have could have been the difference.  When players have to drive 45 minutes one way and then another 45 minutes back from Casey and do it multiple times each week, surely that time would be best spent in recovery, training, physio etc.  That is what makes the difference between winning and losing at the sharp end.

Ours facilities are the worst in the league.  There are multiple examples in this thread of what others already have, and what others are planning.  Go an look at what Essendon have had at Tullamarine for 20 years to see how far behind we are.

It doesn't matter if our own facility is in the middle of a race track. 

We are the only club in the competition without a home base.

And securing those players went a long way to securing the flag

So who got it right in the end?

Yes i think it was time for a new Coach after 2 Failed Final Series, considering we went into ‘23 with the same Game Plan. New Blood 

Umpires? Having 4 of them is a joke. I blame the AFL actually

That wasn’t my philosophy at all. I would have recruited Luke Ball, if you remember those discussions. But i also believe in recruiting THE RIGHT YOUNG talent. I don’t believe it is a lottery, if the right research is done thoroughly

Most develop at different stages and some are so advanced that they don't get any better (Morton, Toumpas etc) Others take ages so judging them at the same age is fraught with danger

And no one knows for sure either.  It's an educated guess otherwise, there wouldn't be any busts

But hey, if we get told something over and over again we're inclined to believe it

I'll say it again, if our facilities were so substandard, there's no way we win the flag training out of Casey

Truth is we did it tough as well flying all over the place within hubs and away from family

As hard as it gets whilst the Eagles gave up.  We kept at it and won the flag playing great football

You of all people should know about doing it tough and overcoming adversity

I'm actually surprised that you're not agreeing with me
