Shocking comment. Takes a lot of courage playing this game. Who squibs on our list?

Don't encourage him.

So long as he doesn’t come on big money or cost anything much in picks, don’t see why not. At minimum he ads to our depth, might even find a spot, would be an upgrade on the Wagners or Anb who are still on our list and play senior games

IMo they are welcome to him. Could not get  a regular spot at the Lions when they were ordinary and could Not get a regular gig at the pies. Says he is ordinary. We have plenty of ordinary already.

Was soft at the Lions and took a while to become a man, that happens. He was very handy at half back last year for the Pies. Smart, skilled, hard running and far better overhead than I’d given him credit for.

He’s better than ordinary but injuries, cost and ease to replace is why he’s on the table.

If the Pies don't want him neither do I.

Freo have offered him a 3 year deal.

They are desperate and Pies are lucky

Freo are in a massive hole and not a pleasurable one at that.

Fair enough, but the guy can play. The Pies don’t want him because they can find useful half back flankers on their list and their salary cap is under the pump with 3 guys about to make 1M per year. They have to dump someone.

We tried for Elliott. I’d try for Mihocek. I’d probably have a look at Scharenberg. There’s a few young players I’d ask about - Flynn Appleby, Nathan Murphy, Tyler Brown I’d try to grab as well. Press them when they’re under the pump

Signing a decent player who’s turned his career around under their new coach and knows his system isn’t reflective of that.

Agree with your earlier post on Aish 'Dee'...he was soft at the Lions but had turned that part of his game around to his credit.

The word seems to be getting louder on Phillips though..to me he would be what we need on the other wing (Langdon on one), I reckon he can play and knows how to get the ball. This is on limited viewing.

What are your thoughts?

You will probably prove me wrong with an example but I don't remember a Collingwood player who they gave away that was worth much at the new team. Just look  at the failures we have picked up from them.

We just sunk over 1M and a 2nd round pick in to Langdon and Tomlinson purely to be hard running accumulating mids. Phillips would be another 600k and at least a 2nd round pick, too much to spend on one position.

I’d only be spending that on a forward, a very underrated defender or a versatile skilled mid.

Heath Shaw, Paul Seedsman, Rhyce Shaw, Heath Scotland, Sharrod Wellingham, Paul Williams. Even Josh Mahoney!

Not many and they are pretty good at selling lemons. And we liked buying them. Aish will go to Freo, and we should always be buyer beware with all players up for trade. But I wouldn’t automatically rule out Pies players.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
