Kemp is top 5. Ā He slides due the ACL injury which rules him out for 2020. But his physical size and pace alongside versatility and kicking make him very very likely to go top 10. He looked ā€œDangerfield likeā€ in some stoppages with a burst of pace.Ā

Dees would be mad to miss him at 8 or 10 (if we trade 8 for 10 &22 from Freo)

    Exactly. That is why gave away so much including our First pick in 2020 to get Brodie Kemp. I'm more confident now we will not split number 8 pick. Brodie Kemp potentially could've been a top 5 pick if he didn't get injured. His highlights package was awesome to watch.Ā

    I don't think we split just to potentially target Kemp. We have a range of players that we are looking at pick 8, which Kemp is part of that list.

    As Jason Taylor said, you can't trade into a first a first round just to focus on that one particular player because at the end of the day they might not even be there at that pick.

    Swans are really looking hard at Kemp with pick 5 potentially if they bid on Green and GWS match the bid.

    The short-term pessimist long-term optimist part of me that thinks taking Kemp and accepting his year out actually kind of works out in a twisted way.

    We've got quite a list management puzzle at the moment particularly dealing with a LOT of players who are hovering on the fringe or who need to find a way back from injury.Ā  And there's a serious concentration of that status at similar height and potential roles to Kemp; Hannan, Hunt, Vandenberg, J Wagner, Kolodjasnij, Hibberd and Smith.

    That's seven names Kemp could replace their role and would anticipate surpassing pretty quickly. And any (Maybe even most. Maybe even all!) of them might be gone at end of 2020.Ā  But for now, we've got them all to sort through and see what we can make of them. To unclog a list you actually need to get the lumps flowing.

    We've traded out of the pointy end of the 2020 draft but it is likely we will have major list turnover then as well. Is it conceivable that Kemp is basically our '2020 No.1' selection?

    I like this idea, mate. Mostly because I think Kemp could be a star and if he's the second player we pick, the risk is lessened.

    Agree. Heā€™s got real talent. Some of Kempā€™s burst of pace out of packs at the championship was very ā€œDangerfield likeā€. If we still have pick 10, he would be the definite choice.Ā

    Where do you play himĀ NS?Ā  Forward?Ā  Played quite well when forward in some of the latter Nat matches.Ā  Proved to be a solid to impressive competitor in the air.Ā  A very decent set shot action which should hold him in good stead as a medium mobile tall prospect.

    Good by hand in theĀ middle, at times, but not necessarily elite here.Ā  Does show elite glimpses (by hand) though.Ā  By foot and movement away from stoppages?Ā  Lots of work ahead imoĀ and a WIP if he is to become a decentĀ to top liner in the mid.Ā  Might take a bit longer than some to find his feet in this sort of role given his height and possibly a poor tank at this point vs others he was competing against.Ā  Ability to win the ground ball at a very good to elite level as a mid?Ā  Again a WIP imv vs some of the better mids in the Nats.Ā  Good to vg work at timesĀ when receiving from others around stoppages on the exits but again, disposal by foot (on the run) needs a fair amount of work.

    Where does he play? Ā  At the start, Ā probably half back. Ā Within 2 years he can play ruck rover and be very damaging alongside Viney and Oliver and Petracca. He may also play as anĀ attacking CHB/half back like BrendonĀ Goddard.Ā

      Of course, itā€™s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. Itā€™s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistĀ  Itā€™s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now letā€™s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedĀ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Ā

      Caseyā€™s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckmanā€™s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demonsā€™ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
