Caleb Serong (Drafted by Fremantle)

I don’t get it. Admittedly I have only watched highlights but judging Serong’s highlights against Young, Serong looks a long way off.

Reminds me of Trengove. Super hyped pre-draft then appears slow, undersized and one dimensional. Happy to be proven wrong.

Young on the other hand has dash, a burst of speed and he is a goal kicking midfielder.

I never like any players highlights. But i am also warry of players who are more physically built for their age getting an advantage over others (Serong is a short tank relative to the other players). Hopefully melbourne pick the best player.

Young is mainly a halfback as I understand, in an interview he stated they pushed him up into the midfield but he believes his best footy is at halfback and that’s where he sees himself playing. I see him as our future replacement for either Jetta or Hibberd and would pick him over Serong.

(Disclaimer: Personal opinion and choice obviously and I can only go on what I’ve read and highlights as I haven’t seen any of the kids play in person ?)

I have to agree with you.

I can't understand, why Serong is rated so highly in this years draft either? I must be missing something, but i think we need to look at other players.

If you're worrying about deficiencies too much then you're missing out on some seriously good highlights as well.

- Quick and super accurate hands, releases team mates perfectly with both hands
- Nice baulk and fakes to set up hands
- Lovely footwork to create room around a stoppage, he doesn't get caught in at the contest
- Excellent reading of the play both at stoppages and as a forward

There's a craftiness that from our list only Salem, Oliver, Jetta, maybe Fritsch/Petracca and at his best Nath Jones have.

I'd like to see more linebreaking and he does kick across his body a bit and slice the ball low (which honestly isn't always a bad thing). And yes the lack of size is a worry too. But there's a really high level of footy smarts on display.

It's funny. He doesn't actually have a highlight until a minute in. Some pretty ordinary highlights. I don't get it.

Nat Fyfe had one of the worst under 18 highlights I have ever seen.

Judge him when he is around the 70 to 100 game mark.

Short not quick not good skills pass, they say his got a good leap but is not in the top 10 for vertical jump or running jump, not top 10 in any combine results to be a top 3 pick you have to have something that sets you apart, this kid has nothing.

Because recruiters have up until the 70-100 game mark to decide who they want to draft and if they are [censored] by then that people will forget who selected them with minimum accountability?

Another contested inside beast who looks slow. Should be a lock for pick 3 you would think.

Ah, you changed the wording, but not the content. Congratulations.

I can’t stress enough on the importance of drafting more inside mids with bad skills who are slow.

Hopefully we take a look at Crouch as a DFA

The player I noticed in these highlights wasn't Serong it was the things Young did. How was that kick threading the needle to a leading forward inside 50. Just what we are crying out for. Just because he played half back as a junior doesn't mean that's where his AFL career will be. Hogan was the AA U 18 CHB. T Mac was a forward as a junior and recruited as a back.  J Howe was recruited by Pies as a forward and we know how that ended.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
