stats have shown that we have been killed on the scoreboard because we turn the ball over so often and our opposition scores from it. I dont know how many time this season i have seen players under no pressure kick to opposition players, or handpass to one of our own players feet. this is a game of skill, and our side was not up to that this year. As i have said before we play a brand of football where we zone off hoping to pick off the easy miskick, pass etc. that does not work against good sides that do not miskick. We have the ability to get the ball forward but either we are out numbered, out marked, or simply out played. Some players are always looking sideways and backwards rather than moving the ball forward. and we frequently play players who just are not fit enough or have the form to deserve to play, in some cases i would say they dont even have the right attitude, i.e. they dont chase, they dont tackle, they dont shepherd and often miss giving or receiving simple kicks and handballs.

There are numerous poor aspects to our game plan, players skills and player positioning that the coaches don't appear to be able to identify - or at least be able to rectify. Playing Jones & Lewis on the wings is one (and Tyson last year), Fritsch down back.

Allowing opposition teams to chip the ball and play keepings off against us is another.

Not sure why you are so confident they know what the issues are.

Absolutely agree. I've said this before about Collingwood being a good example of how a lot of their kickers seemed to go from turn over merchants in 2017 to a strong team of kickers, who can control games in a similar way to old Hawthorn under Clarkson.

Collingwood clearly worked really hard on their fitness (arguably too hard, given all their injuries in 2018), but this meant their players regularly got to the outside and into space, so they could keep moving the ball with seeming accuracy.

As has been said a couple of times now, you look a much better kick when you're not trying to thread the eye of the needle, and merely kicking into space or to a free player.

Collingwood have Pendlebury and Sidebottom in the middle who's disposal is elite.
They've often been the difference in our games.

Agree with all that.   Another incredibly frustrating part of our game was our tendency to crowd the contest, both aerial and on the ground.  That stems from panic and again a loss of confidence.

Our whole game was compromised and each problem bled into the other.  Skills are the easy thing to single out,  but they are partly symptomatic of a host of other issues.

I agree that some of our crowding stems from panic and a loss of confidence, but I also wonder how much of that is game style-directed. To swarm each and every contest. I think it's a failure of the game style, unless you have cover out the back.

Last I heard Ratten doesn't speak Fugazi...that's our domain. Fugazi= Mumbo Jumbo....and we nail it...on and off the field

I watched Lewis Jetta on Thursday night and I can happily say he is by far one of, if not best kicks in the game. Absolutely love watching him with ball in hand.

Aaron Davey back at his peaks was one of the deadliest kicks in the game also when he was playing off half back.

Much preferred Davey when he was running around the feet of Neitz.
When Neitz retired Daveys protection was gone and he got physically targeted relentlessly.
Which he didn't handle very well.

In a general sense small forwards feed best off good key forwards.  They (small forwards) end up in better spots by default.  They are the add-ons rather than the focus. 

Once they become the focus (or are isolated) they often fall short. 

Hogan went close but we haven't had a decent and consistent KPF since Neitz.  And since Neitz we've played in one final series in a decade.

Medium sized forwards are a different matter ... a forward line can consist of these types primarily but they need to be very good as a collective and as individuals. 

I'd like to see Petracca,  Melksham & Fritsch work together to see if it does work (rotating deep forward and as high half forwards) Jones & Viney could easily be used as small forwards but we haven't seen it.  Not sure why as our forward line didn't function at all well all season.

But if we could land a player like Patton then I'd breath easier.  T-Mac could then go back to being a utility forward and be used up the ground periodically as well.  Weideman gets game time when needed (if form warrants)
