15! Far out, we’ve dropped the ball. We had a Billy Stretch thread when he was about 12.

We like them young at Demonland 😐

Young White is about 15 and I’m told is closing in on his father’s height. Worth a look in the draft in a few year’s time and probably already not far off getting a thread of his own on Demonland.😀

To be fair, we now have a thread on the coin toss. So he can dare to dream.

The bidding system for father–sons and academies works this way -

* we assume the player is eligible as a father–son (and has accepted nomination to the club) or academy as the case may be.

• Each draft pick is assigned a value (with No. 1 starting at 3000 points, declining exponentially until No. 74 which has no value), which is regressed from historical player salary data.

• During the draft, any club may bid for a father–son eligible player with any draft pick.

• The father's club, if it wishes to select the son, must then use its next one or more draft picks until the total points value of the surrendered picks adds up to the value of the draft pick used by the bidding, less a discount – which is either 20% of the bid value or 197 points (equivalent to pick No. 56), whichever is greater. Any points left over after reaching the bid value result in the draft pick being shuffled down the order.

• The club which originally made the bid then has the next selection in the draft.

The same bidding process also works for the academies with the exception that in the case of clubs other than the New South Wales and Queensland clubs, a bid for draft selection cannot be matched by the club to which the academy player is attached.

New bidding system for father-sons, academies

This is the draft value index that applies.

Taj has been named on the wing for WA against SA tomorrow at 1pm.

That's a pretty strong WA lineup also. For Taj to be named is a great effort considering he wouldn't have been in calculations at the start of the year.

So who is the Emergency for WA      J. Stretch   ???   brother of Billy ?

No

I saw Daicos nominated for father son. Are these nominations officially open? If so, can we expect to hear this week if Taj has nominated?

Great to see Taj named on the wing after his initial selection was deemed to be last man in.

Following up on 26 disposal, 2 goals and 5 tackles to be named Best on Ground vs Subiaco last round.

I don't mind the sons at all, it is the fathers banging on in social media or training from the over the fence that could be a worry.

I'm not too sure Jay, trying to find that out now. My guess it'll be streamed somewhere? but just not entirely sure.

Watching a future demon in the afternoon and then the boys at night is not a bad Saturday's work.

Angkor?

Perhaps not.

What i am trying to suggest is that the influence (and mouth) of the father can be a major distraction (Moore, West come to mind).  Previously the son came at a discount but with the points system you have to pay market value and the benefit now is you do not have to go though the lottery of the draft.

I worked with a chap who was briefly on the Collingwood list in the early 80's.  Wes Fellowes was starting out and his father Graeme was at training all the time, yelling instructions, calling him over to the boundary etc.  Lets just say that this did not improve Wes's standing with the playing group.  Then again Wes did win a Dopeland trophy.

Nice one. Also good to see typewriters still being used for WA teams

Cheers mate.

Some handy names to look out for WA. Amiss, Erasmus, Johnson and Warner interest me.

You still get a discount for father son. Or are you referring to the good old days where a third rounder would do it?

Thanks Chaser, I was very tempted to head out there, but need to earn some brownie points as I have a couple of work reunions and footy club nights next week. Heading out now to do some gardening and house chores and will watch the game after that. Then take the dog for a walk to the local park (where there just happens to be a couple of mates watching an Ammos final🍺🍺🍺🤫🤫🤫 then home to watch the Dees

I love Warner, he’s well ahead of Taj currently and is just a born leader. The kid is a gun. Erasmus doesn’t do a lot that will catch your eye, he just does the basics very well and knows how to find the ball. You will think he’s been quiet and all of a sudden 20 odd possessions 2 or 3 goals and a few score assists. He’s one of our boys from Sorrento Duncraig.

Amiss I don’t know much about country boy J believe from the south west, who has developed very quickly after moving to the city on a permanent basis.

Johnson been talked about for a while another northern coastal Perth boy from Sacred Heart who will impress, heap of endeavour and desire to succeed. Wins his own footy and also uses it well. Fairly cool in traffic, which is a decent trait for the next level

Right ok. Should’ve known it was just fluff. Thanks for the info!

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
