  • Goodwin: Steven May is right to go. He was very close last week, but he’s trained strongly so it’ll be good to have him back.
  • Goodwin: Jake Lever trained yesterday away from the main group, but we expect him to be fine. He’ll train again tomorrow + be right to go.
  • Goodwin: Collingwood has some really elite small players who can mark above the head. We will prepare for whatever set-up they go with - tall or small.
  • Goodwin: We’ll take the wet conditions into account at selection. We could go with Harry Petty as the main tall up forward, or we could have a mix.
  • Goodwin: We think Angus Brayshaw has really started to round his game out well in areas other than just his offence. He’s a really important part of our side + we’re happy with how he’s tracking.
  • Goodwin: Macca has made a great contribution to the club over five years. He is a really close mate of mine + has been an unbelievable mentor. The time was right for him to depart, but it’s sad to see a great mate leave + he’s had an enormous impact on our playing group.
  • Goodwin: This is the time of year where you get linked to a whole range of people - players, coaches + staff. There are some great footy people out there, Alan Richardson is one of them, but that’s not something I’m looking at.
  • Goodwin: I thought we challenged Richmond for half the game last week until the conditions changed. Skill level has been a big issue for us, but I think there are positives to take out of the first half of that game.
  • Goodwin: The captaincy next year is the last thing I’m looking at right now. Nathan Jones + Jack Viney have done an incredible job for this football club.
  • Goodwin: The players are looking at the next three weeks as an opportunity. The spirit of our players is high.

He's really scraping the barrel of things to say now.

"We took some positives out of the first half of last week"

Why can't we ever hear the questions on coach pressers? It is really annoying

Microphones are not that expensive ffs

A winnable game for us if Goody is on the job.

Not all people are natural sales people - but I agree his PCs are pretty tame.

I like @Demonland summary so i don't have to watch the vid.

But Goodwin is a captain of a premiership team, I'm pretty sure he has some leadership and inspiration about him. Because we don't get to see it in public docent mean it isn't there.

Agree totally. But he has to put it out there soon otherwise he is out of a job.

With The Filth’s injury we should win, but i know we won’t.

We are not fit enough to play Goodwin Football.

Why is this allowed to happen...

I think I also heard him say he is NOT looking at getting Richardson into the club.

Why change anything. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it obviously. I must be looking at a different game and team on the weekends

I always find this stance interesting. Not having a go at you as I’m just generally interested, but what would you like him to say?

Post this nightmare season will be fascinating. The President and The Board better sort this all out, and get it right...

I can write you a shell script which can automate the authoring and posting of these one dimensional comments for you. It will be a simple script with minimal parameters, consistent with your normal output on Demonland.

It will free you up for other things like yelling at customer service staff or whinging about franking credits, both things I assume you do regularly.

When did Goodwin captain a Premiership team UH?

Its no coincidence we have low value Assistant coaches. He has orchestrated that scenario.

This is the most unprofessional aspect of AFL media IMO. For years fans have been complaining that we cant hear the questions in weekly pressers.

It is just laziness that the problem hasnt been fixed.

Good One

I'd have expected the message to sound like:

  • We've averaged 91 points against since the break, we'll be working hard on defensive running in the midfield to stem the bleeding
  • We don't have a forward line that can kick 90 points - we'll be going back to a 2014 Roosy approach where we embed defence first. Especially in the wet. We will win this game by limiting opposition scoring opportunities.
  • Speaking of the wet, we saw again last week after half time that we're still too cute with a slippery ball and over possess, as we have been since I started as coach. We saw first hand from a good wet weather team how to play in those conditions and we'll be drilling the players to implement the same this week.
  • Our quality of disposal on a turnover isn't great - we're not going to go flat out at every opportunity because we've seen that we just give the ball back far too often. I'm frustrated, and I know our supporters are frustrated.
  • We were good for half a game last week. Yes - there's something to work with, but you don't win games of footy being good for a half.
  • I understand why our supporters might question our leadership/captaincy when we are consistently beaten week in week out and our leaders are not demonstrably leading (eg laying tackles).

He didn't say any such thing at all, would be an idea if people just stopped making things up.

You're better than this Smokey, just walk past if you don't like it (or ignore, which I found worked wonders with Matsuo).

Is Richardson the messiah? Is he the only option?

Not making it up as I said it’s what I thought I heard.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
