The pain we have to relive again.

FMD.

Another round of F'ups from our Grand Club.

While we are all in a good mood, i have some footy trivia to entertain and rub salt into the wounds of the masses

《Trivia Question 》

Neil Balme has won premierships at every club he has been at in a capacity bar one, can you name the clubs he has been associated with who he has won them with plus the one club he has not?

Geelong, Collingwood, Richmond

Errr......the fuchsias?

Darwin was never our zone. Our zone in the NT was always from Alice Springs to the Southern Border.

Darwin has never been zoned. I thought it was weird at the time that Darwin wasn't zoned, but I now believe it was for this exact purpose.

I will defer my rage , facts are always awkward.

so we get pushed back and back. its our own fault ina way but by gosh they are getting agood helping hand here, not for the first time either.

They need it though.

The Gold Coast is a sporting teams black hole. Never should have been contemplated by the AFL and this will be an ongoing saga.

Absolute farce. To gift them pick 2 and then throw in 3 more picks, plus the unknown benefits the academy picks could become, plus extra rookie spots. This is disgraceful.

It either goes 2 ways for the suns:
1. They squander this and ruin the careers of 4 footballers for no reason
2. It works out and they become a super team comparable to GWS and the AFL have both of their darlings in the top 4 for years to come.

Outrageous.

Crazy. They gave pick 2 for Weller and delist Lyons who will probably finish top 3 in Brisbane’s B&F...... but let’s give them pick 1&2 for their poor list management.

Only Gil and all of Gold Coasts 5 supporters would be happy with this. In all seriousness, what does giving Gold coast this enormous leg up do except further f up the rest of support within the competition. With Brisbane now succeeding there is only 1 team in Queensland who anyone would want to support in a state that couldnt give less of a toss about AFL. Cannot believe more of this years bottom clubs didnt kick up a bigger stink about this, seems ridiculous

That's been happening for decades ADC not just with this example.

The entire FDs of the bottom dwellers & their CEOs, including ours, just happy to take their big salaries and not rock the boat.  Care factor?

Could you see Eddie, Kennett, Cook or even Gale sitting back and copping this sort of GIL/AFL cattle prod up the ar $e?

The Aints, Norf, the Doggies and us really know how to bend over and part the seas.

Happy to take their coin, many players included, and do not much other than the bare minimum to keep things rolling.

An ongoing 'say nothing don't rock the boat' culture that stands for nothing... you have to wonder whether many of the players look at these results and think/act in a similar vein when the going gets a little rough.

Nothing changes from decade to decade.

No home, no champs to turn matches and we keep allowing ourselves to get rolled as part of the circle of AFL life and accepting it as the norm.

That elusive cup is looking more and more distant with every year that this wankfest of a comp continues and we continue to say and do nothing with every set of 50 lashes.

It's not this pick that you let go and say nothing, potentially getting a result regardless.  If so this one might work out regardless.  In isolation i get that.....it's the culture of not standing up off the field for any principle...ever and just accepting our lot.

Is there any conceivable chance the recruiters will eff up #3?

Yep

I don't think they'll take that chance JR. Much less pressure comes on if you screw up picks 12 & 13, or something like that.

All AFL clubs had the chance to ready themselves for the draft concessions that both the Gold Coast and GWS were given in their first few seasons in the AFL.

Our club didn't ready itself.

It is completely and utterly nonsensical for a Melbourne supporter to think it's 'unfair' that Gold Coast have been given more handouts.

Agree. If Collingwood or Collingwood were hypothetically in our position, Eddie and Kennett would have already held a presser by now blasting the AFL if not would have held this up as long as they could. Unfortunately nothings going to change and the AFL will continue to be as corrupt as ever. Club will have to move on and quickly as you can only play with the cards you’re dealt, no matter how unfair.

Is it weird that I get great joy in listening to Melbourne supporters blame the AFL and Gill which is really only disguised as deep-seated anger and disappointment in their own club's complete mismanagement and incompetence over the past decade and then some.

I'll always be a Melbourne supporter and love the club.

I'll also always be the first to say that we've got nobody but ourselves to blame for where we are now.

I agree with your points

But i think you're glossing over how badly run the afl administration is.

Amatuer I'd describe it as. Rules are created in the best interest of the administration and not the competition as a whole.

Afl interference in club land, trades and contacts would be unprecedented in orher sports

Yeah, we have petracca brayshaw Weideman just have to get the best out of our talent.

They did ok with Martin, Cotchin and Rance. Topped them up with some former GC high picks in Lynch, Prestia and Caddy.

Yeah I understand, but we have had so many opportunities to draft the right players and develop these tallneted kids into afl players.

We have a solid list that has taken us to a prelim, we now have to use what we have to take the next step. Potentially trading pick 3 to bring in some outsde run/polish.

Was always going to happen.

I'm not glossing over. I just don't care. The root of the problem here is wholeheartedly to do with the state of our club at present and also over the past decade or so.

The tweaking, changing or creating of rules wouldn't be a talking point for Melbourne supporters if we were consistently challenging for finals as was predicted at this point of our rebuild. We finished second last this year, so of course supporters need to direct their anger and frustration somewhere.

Just another reason why the AFL has gone to the pits and Gil is a FloOoooooog

I expect us to sit back and say nothing.

Get angry at your own club.

Write a letter to them.

Ask them to nail their picks at the draft this year and make some killer trades.

I’d like to know what the AFL’s plan is if this latest round of assistance doesn’t work?  Surely they would have had to discuss a contingency plan otherwise it’s just going to be GC coming back year after year with their hands out begging.

theres no point in continually handing out top end talent if all they’re gonna do is leave at the first opportunity because no one wants to be there. Unless something dramatically changes up there the AFL may as well just be throwing buckets of money into a furnace.

Would they be telling the GC privately get it or right or pack for Tassie?

Jordan Gysbets at pick 11 when he was calculated to go mid 2nd round and then Lucas Cook at pick 12 who again was touted as a mid 2nd round draft pick are just prime examples of blunders that have bitten us in the [censored].

Cook was 2010 and Gysbets was 2009.  You are going to have to let them go as prime examples at some point.

They'll all need to be let go....

Prime examples for players who were taken earlier than predicted?

What about ones that were predicted to go where we took them, but amounted to nothing?

I can give you a list of those if you like?

Gil putting the Gold into Gold Coast. What an embarrassment of riches they have to play with at the draft.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
