Gee I thought he did play CHF for us at times? And I thought he left us after being blamed in part for our 91 finals loss to the Weagles and cracking it. Didn’t we unload just about everyone over 6’4 except Jimmy and Garry that preseason?

Then again, I noticed he started on the bench in Carlton's Final matches. I had a theory about the mighty Earl, he would take you so far and then he'd leave you in the lurch..

I’d like too keep frosty and let him have a run in the middle or wing and give us that outside run from the centre. He’s quick, good overhead and agile enough at ground level, defensively been solid although erratic at times, he’ll improve that I hope, wouldn’t mind if he turned into a Bontempelli or like. Bit of size and strength in the centre. I think he would certainly attract offers but I’d like him too stay.

Really Flemo56 you have been drinking some red wine that's far too good for your palette.

Why is it that about 20% of Demons fans want to try snd make Frosty a winger or a forward and now your suggestion that he is some sort of latent talent of the The Bont variety!

The Bont is everything Frosty isn't!  He's good in close, handballs in and out side superbly, turns on a small circle, kicks to his teammates relentlessly, scores clutch goals and also leads his team from the front!

What Frosty brings is on a good day is the run of a run away train with no driver and no idea of any result! Occasional good high mark under pressure also!

On a bad day it's just all a train wreck and no one able to clean up!

in saying this Frosty has improved this year as an individual and team player and especially since Stephen May and Jakey Lever have enabled him to play with more freedom mostly as the Third Tall.

Yes def offer him a new contract about $300/350,000 for the next 2 years and he will be even better for another 2 years with a $50/100,000 salary rise.

BUT don't turn him into something he ain't Roos trued him as a forward and it was a disaster No one knew what he did and his kicking for goal was even worse than most this year!!

Prymke was not enigmatic. No frills but very effective Centre Half Back cruelled by injury.

Ingersen was also nothing like Frost was a fairly dour  defender who stuck on his man with very few risks. He did kick 50m plus on his trusty Left boot!

Frosty has been nominated as the club's 'Most Courageous' player by his team mates.  It is part of the MV player awards.  MVP Nominees

He is quite fearless, how he throws himself around.

Quite an honour.  Nothing better than respect from teammates.

Wasn't this best exemplified in the last 2 mins vs Hawks

Frosty would not relent and threw himself at the ball to save the day

agreed his determination is team lifting!

not worried about levers kicking. he's all class, just down on confidence like the rest of the team this year. he just needs an uninterrupted pre-season at this point and he'll be fine.

I certainly hope you’re correct as I’m in the “we overpaid for a 3rd tall defender” camp.

Frostmiester, Big M and Fritschkrieg (after Rnd 15) about the only ones who provided some highlights this year.

The Duke played CHF on occasions but his inaccuracy eventually sealed his fate in that posi (for us).

Improved his accuracy somewhat at the Blues and made a better fist of CHF there.

And T Mac's game against Carlton which everyone's forgotten about. 6 goals by 3 qtr time is a pretty spectacular effort.

We would've won 3-4 games on the run home if he didn't get injured. His form turned around at the Freo game and it was match winning against average sides.

Emphasis on Highlight 'S' BBP.

Agree on the 6 goal performance but unfortunately too little too late.  His form and that of many others, prior to Freo, was abysmal.  Season was shot by then.

The problem is his technique is poor.

Don't get me wrong - I agree about his class and was really impressed with how he ended the season. Never dropped his head.i also look forward to him having a great preseason and some luck with injury and he will be huge for us next year. Like a new recruit.

Earl lost about $200K in a sports store in Malvern Central. MFC was skint and offered Earl $40K so he saw Ian Collins at Carlton. He asked “How much do you need” and wrote out a cheque for $200K - problem solved!

Not an unreasonable position to take either, but I have faith.

He was an inaccurate kick for goal. Had a loop in his kicking leading to a hook and slice across a distance.

Correct 56.  Right leg would swing way over the left when following through.

Thanks for the confirmation, Rusty; some may have thought that I was otherwise sprouting on the past. :)

I lived and grew up in Malvern and once built, I frequented that shopping centre just off Glenferrie Road, on Wattletree Road. Earl was regularly seen standing in his sports store, which was empty. In fact, I do not recall ever seeing a customer there - and I visited the place twice weekly, at least. However, I did recognise Earl immediately - quite a figure of the football genre -- and always had a private interest in '...how business was doing...' I recall, I thought that he would definitely go broke very soon - if he was the owner/franchisee and actually made an effort to get some sneakers there, once or twice. Big fella. Reminded me of the old MSD sports stores days in so many ways but in particular, a footballing icon at call.

I think the issue is that we were planning on playing three 3rd defenders (players who read the ball,  zone and punch) but then they changed the rule to 666 and we needed to bring in a 1st defender (who locks down and plays one on one).

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
