OD, don’t we have to actually have to put a valid proposal forward to the Govt to be reviewed and then money is perhaps allocated if the proposal is valid?

I’m not aware we have been proactive enough to do this formally as yet - or at least recently.

Oh we had a plan but sadly everyone thought it was a crap idea. If they are working on a plan none bar a very small group must know what it is as the silence is deafening.

Thanks to the Australian voters a number of clubs won't get their 'promised' $15-$20 million Federal funding.  eg Hawks, Cats, Bulldogs. :D

doubt it... the think tank will merely will merely be working on when to throw the money for the maximum electoral advantage.

Now is the time to push for Casey... to do otherwise risks another xxxx years of nothing.

The difficulty is predicting the future.

Who would have thought three years ago that the driving mantra would have been women in football.

Care to guess the next one ??

Well, that didn't age well. (I'm so glad I added "if the polls are correct".)

And the Pies win again. Their money was guaranteed by both parties.

I have to say that Collingwood have left us in their wake both on and off the field.

The MFC are the poor cousins enteral Melbourne.

Sorry OD i can't decide whether you are saying we are suffering from some sort of indegestion or we were suffering and should now be feeling better, having passed a motion of some sort?

If it's the latter i must have missed something!

No bloody predictive script has got me again. Should be "central".

Our directors... recommended from the North, over the decades,  have put us into this position.....  because they could never see any other ideal of an outside home base...  because they are all In-Love with the MCG,  and the Mcc_

They're whole concept is based on a Love of the Mcc,  first & foremost...  and trying to make Melbourne-great again,  as an  'appendage'  of the Mcc.

Trying this over and over again...  IS  the reason this club has slowly died on the vine.   The Mcc has never given this footy club its Needs.  but kept it as  some-sort  of doorman,  into  the Mcc....

There's something in what you say.

Wonder how many members of the Board are MCC members.

My guess would be most if not all of them.

We all love the MCG and its environs but going forward we need to look elsewhere or get left in the dust. A complex like Essendon have, that Hawthorn are building and Collingwood are planning take years to put in place. Carlton will be next although they will not have an easy task expanding Princes Park.

Is there a ten, twenty year plan for the MFC?

adding onto this theme...

I think THE most important thing Our club will ever do.....  is to remove our Board Committee meetings out of the  Mcc/Mcg.....     Outside to somewhere we can all socialize together in smart casual street clothes.

... so all Mfc members can have a chance to get to Know those who may one day nominate for a directorship of the Mfc.

This way we all can know who the nominees are and what we think of the types and If we think they know footy and business etc.

These nominations/Nominees Should NOT happen from within the walls of the Mcc....   but from within the walls of the Mfc.!!!

Agree, It is a very strange situation all around. Even the name Melbourne, does it refer to the CBD or all of suburban Melbourne. My issue with the Yarra park proposal is it does not encourage community engagement to any real extent.

It's just another appendage of the 'G' grounds... essentialy the Mcc.    More of the same,  within Apron-Strings reach of mother.

There is one thing I will say for that  ProPosal,  at Yarra park... it has the East Melbourne frontage,  which would allow decent Lease/rental arrangements of the office spaces,  not being used by the Mfc...  so anOther source of income,  from the multi story deevelopment...  and very cheap land acquisition,  I would imagine...  as it's really buying Air space.

But again,  are they  ( PJ & Board ), thinking Primarily of acquiring money first and foremost... or of growing the grass roots of the club... and of Diversifying this clubs Deemographics,  so it has a broad reach to all areas of our Melbourne populous.

The Train-Traffic thru Richmond would have to be maybe 10 fold,  that of Jolymont station.  That is a far bigger passing trade...  than that of the the,  InDeecent Proposal.

So money/status grab... Or People and growth ProPosal...  growing the clubs base broader,  wider.  And in doing so,  a Healthier club into the future.

I am not up to date with what has and has not been proposed, but from my professional experience I would be astounded if any Yarra Park proposal would get up, as much as we all may want it to. Taking over historic, heritage parkland, changing the historic layout, removing trees and blocking existing views into the parkland from outside are just a few of the key problems a proposal would face and thus would undoubtably fail.

I think the only location close by that would have a chance of succeeding IMO would be proposing a development on Goshs Paddock ovals 1 and 2. It’s an area that is already a sporting precinct, does not have the heritage issues and any tall development would not block public views. Obviously there are still issues to be faced, including relocating the current tenants of GP Oval 1.

However,I don’t expect we will hear anything about our new home until a formal proposal is prepared and lodged with the relevant Authorities. I hope it is soon.

I have an alternative proposal that would be perfect.

Why don't we build an exact replica of the MCG directly under the MCG. The land is not being used for any purpose and as Demons what better place to raise hell than under ground. I bet we could borrow some of the giant bores that are being used to dig the tunnels for the new train line to hollow out under the G and save on costs. We could even install an elevator directly up to our admin in the MCG.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
