I've been to WP a number of times and while it is limited there is some parking for the public.  The 900 bus drops you outside also on Wellington Rd and intersects with Caulfield, Oakleigh and Huntingdale rail stations which Hawk supporters have been using effectively for years to go visit/watch training etc.

Even one of their trainers catches the 900 from Stud Park (or used to) to get there and back for many years.

Buses are for people that either dont have a license of can't afford to drive themselves or don't have limo service - pass

I was not being literal in saying it is the second best choice compared to location..... I am saying there would be better long term choices available. And clearly  all our supporters will never agree on a choice of location. I do not know what the best location is as I am not in a position to research all the options as MFC has had 50 odd years to do since we were the only tenants at the MCG.

Criteria for funds:

• Influential politician connected to club or electorate.
• Social causes: Ethinic groups, Indigenous groups, disabled groups
• Other sports:  AFLW, local footy,
• Community use of facilities.
• Research projects.

All, too sad to read really.  Melb the only Vic team not mentioned ?  Others not mentioned.  Freo, GCS, GWS, Port.

Our disadvantages:

• Not having an inner suburban home ground to piggy back on to get funding. 
• We are late comers to all the causes other clubs use to get handouts and it will be hard for mfc to come up with something new to back our cause.
• We don't have an electorate that connects emotionally to mfc nor do we have an influential politician connected to our club. 
• Casey connection because in government's eyes it may compete for funding to an mfc city base.

Time for our 'big end of town' members to get on their bikes and cultivate some Spring Street and Canberra relationships. 

BTW, does anyone know MCC's position on this?  Are they in their batting for us or they don't care?

I will now go back to not reading this thread as it is far too depressing...

LH.. there is an episode of Yes Minister about funding a football club. It's hilarious as always and involves a trade off between a derelict museum and the local footy club. The outcome is a masterpiece of compromise as always.

On a serious note the MCC have no interest in us at all save that if our attendances drop off and another club takes off .. say Carlton there will be pressure for us to play more games at alternative stadiums.

Where the mistake was made was that we should have demanded training rights at the MCG back in 1970 (?) or whenever we were forced out and then we could have leveraged that into a real facility. Serious hindsight I know but its time for some long term planning.

Spot on DJ, expecting the MCC to do much for us is folly, they have ignored us for 50 years why would a change of heart happen now when the majority of members in 2019 are members of Hawthorn, Essendon, Collingwood and Carlton.

I don't buy into the whole poor Melbourne we are the victim mentality. The solution is reappy quite simple:

1. We are Melbourne and our home is the 'G'. As such we need training facilities within walking distance to our home and should not consider any other options as our identity is Melbourne. 

2. There is little gain from either side of politics in handing out money to the MFC. Generally our members do not live marginal electorates and the East Melbourne bloc bat politically above their weight. 

3. We need to keep working the Jolimont and finding a way to gain support from East Melbourne residents. I wouldn't be opposed to call in a Mick Gatto to explain the benefits of the plan.

4. Delivering success, consistent finals and a premiership or two and grow to 70k members and the politicians will take more notice. 

Failing the above we couls get back into pokies and sign Crown Casino as a sponsor on the basis they build world class training facilities in the casino. When the AFL and politicians complain we simply say our preference was Plan A but can only work if they are on board. 

I believe that within the next 5-10 years we will have good facilities within a walk of the 'G' along with a social hub for members.

Still Melbourne supporters are the biggest group of MCC members, about 24%. But MCC don’t play any part in advocating with government on our behalf, that is not their duty. 

I want to know what pert is doing, I just hope that mfc board and exec are working their backsides off on this 

Viable options that have been mooted over the years, that we must continue to explore.

1. Something at the Docklands. It is close to the city. Easy to travel by train to.

2. Don’t know what happened to it, but there was some talk about Elsternwick Park. Right geographical era.

3. Develop on the patch of vacant land next to Goschs Paddock. It’s big enough if smartly designed. It’d offer great exposure, as you could have branding visible to Punt Rd Traffic and the freeway traffic. Probably my preference if Yarra Park is out.

4. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’d be exploring Toorak Park. It’s next to a station. You can still allow Prahran juniors to play on the ground on weekends, which fulfills the community use criteria. Have an arrangement with Old Xavs who play there. There is some on street parking and a car park next door. However, building an underground parking space could be an option. I know two schools in the Stonnington area that are currently building car parks under their ovals. It can be done.

Toorak Park... way too small going forward

Docklands.... little/no community benefit and therefore no funding

Elsternwick... don't know too much but is presently the umpiring training facility.

Gosch's park... see Docklands and it is a major vehicle/train/tram thoroughfare adding greatly to costs

No fight left in you. 

The MFC can grow again, but only with long term hard work. We need City presence to do it and i hope Pert and Bartlett have the Balls to realize that.

Elsternwick Park should be seriously considered.

It has been investigated, little room for expansion and evidently the local council has no desire for expansion as it smack in the middle of a residential area. 

Interesting that the Bombers have almost completely abandoned Windy Hill.

When I was there yesterday there was little signage or the like identifying it as Essendon. Sure a couple of the stands had the names of famous past players and some seats had the old... "reserved for Essendon past players and officials" stenciled on them but if you had not known the history it was just a suburban ground with a few more facilities than the old Brunswick Street ground occupied by Fitzroy all those years ago.

What I am trying to say is that the Bombers left their patch years ago.

It can be done.

no they are at Tullamarine 12 kms from the old Windy Hill...think across the freeway from Gladstone Park... nothing remotely "Essendon" about the location
