Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ

Not having fences is fine. One set of goalposts canโ€™t be correct. How do you simulate a match?ย

A very good question?

Since we only play one way weย donโ€™t need a set of goal postsย to defend.

players will be wearing 3d virtual reality goggles which will "add in" things like boundary fences, goal posts, crowds and crowd noises whilst simultaneously providing a plethora of real time statistics on the goggle screen.ย  ย tis the way of the future

Absolute gold!ย  Gave me a big LOL!

I think that you are overlooking the fact that there are two aspects to this proposal. Firstly we develop a HQย building with our admin, gym, โ€œDemonShopโ€, phsios, etc (plus a licensed club facility for Demon members to meet adjacent the MCG)! Secondly we have a training area of a similar size to the โ€œGโ€, located immediately next door and overlooked by the former. The ground would service most training exercises (or modifications of same) that I have observed at Goschโ€™s Paddock and (should we want to do full match simulation) Goschโ€™s Paddock is only a warm-up jog away. We also have Casey at our disposal. Nothing is going to be perfect (except if we get 52 week access to the MCG) however, as Bartlett stresses, this was the option identified as having more positives than other scenarios considered!ย

Itโ€™s still second best and leaves us behind. Why not just stay at Goschs?

Where did it actually say there is only going to be one set of goal/point posts ??

Never seen a half-oval ala half-court in b-ball.

Bartlettโ€™s article simply said there wouldnโ€™t be a fence, just goal/point posts. Seems oneย poster has merely misinterpreted this. Happy to be proven wrong, but no point getting in a state over a half oval when thatโ€™s not the case. Yarra Park leaves Goschs for dead - bring on the facility/training ground (full size - 2 posts)

As if the AFL won't be playing razzle dazzle half-court rules within a few years. Visionary preparation.

Because Goschโ€™s Paddock is only a wind-swept oval. It doesnโ€™t address bringing all our functions together under one roof nor provide a facility for members!

I have the article at home Clint. I will give the exact sentence later today.

Any luck od?

The paragraph from the HUN says " The Demons confirmed there would be an administration building on top of the train line but only goal and point posts on the playing field in the northeastern corner."ย

Sorry for the delay Dr. It has been a busy day."

I read it as there won't be a fence etc at that end.ย

Hi Clint see my comment to DR Gonzo on this subject.

can have 2 interpretations, od

" The Demons confirmed there would be an administration building on top of the train line----- but only goal and point posts------ on the playing field <<<< which is >>>> in the northeastern corner <<<< of yarra park >>>>."ย

i prefer this interpretation myself

Yep, that is whatโ€™s meant. Theย โ€˜onlyโ€™ is a reference to the absence of the fence, rather than a set of goalposts missing.ย

The ground will only have goal and point posts, no fence.ย

During simulations, they rarely use both goals. Usually will set from the backline and if a turnover happens they kick to a coach or a temporary small goal set is used.

Sometimes a fence can be a problem,ย restricting the use of the field especially when the rehab is large or some are running laps or they are spilt into groups causing themย to clash with each other. They can mark the field to suit purposes and are able to place temporary goals. No more jumping fences to get the ball. Theย problem I see is because more thoroughfare for the publicย there will be more rubbish,ย dog doo, beer bottles and cans. The staff and field cleaners will have to be vigilant. I would love to see a small pavillion that spectators can use to huddle in on those rainy days and the staff can use for their computer/tracking area. As well as toilets and room where the players can put their gear.ย

Just as long as the public aren't leaving their random sprinklers on the track then it should all be fine.ย

Thanks od

That to me means the northeast corner will only have goal posts (ie no fence) rather than the northeast corner will be the only side of the ground with goal posts.

the north east corner is just a reference to where the proposed training oval is located in yarra park

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

Itโ€™s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle โ€“ perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
