Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I love that Max doesn't play for frees or conplain to umpires. In fact our players are pretty good in this respect. Compare our players to the likes of Walters, Dangerfield, Ablett etc who all winge to the umpires whenever things dont go their way.

Yes, I'm glad our team isn't a bunch of duckers!  But there were at least 6 staged frees by Dockers on Sat. 2 or 3 of which were goals.

It is now a deliberate coaching strategy"

  • I recall Brad Scott telling Brown that if the opp hold touch him to make sure the umpires see it.  So in the first month or two he received quite a few really soft frees.  He eased back when called out in the media.
  • Who can forget Dangerfield pushing Brayshaw forward, arms aloft having called to be the ruckman and Gus was pinned for interference.  Definitely a a set ploy.
  • What Selwood does to hunch his shoulders and lift the arm to get a head high free has been deemed legit so everyone copies him.
  • Not to mention the bulldogs 'quick handpasses' which were really throws.

Teams are winning games on the back of these.  I don't want us to become known for that stuff but using a few 'scoop the ball' tricks or 'lift arm when tackled' trick that are accepted by umpires , well I'm all for those.

Mighty Max features again in the coaches votes with 7 votes this week.  And, is 7th on the Leaderboard.

69 Tim Kelly
62 Patrick Cripps
58 Travis Boak
56 Ben Cunnington
56 Brodie Grundy
54 Nat Fyfe
53 Max Gawn

On a different note, Max has had a torrid season off the ball with opp players getting into him physically.  It was constant against the Dockers with Max left flattened at least once that I saw.  No free of course!   In fact he received only 1 free all day.  Credit to him that he just keeps on going.

The club will now ask questions of the AFL on what is allowed.  From The Age. "Mahoney said the club would also contact the AFL this week for clarification on the off-the-ball tactics on ruckman Max Gawn.  The harassment of Gawn by Dockers players was constant during the weekend’s game and has been a regular tactic by teams playing the Demons since Port Adelaide employed the tactic successfully in the opening round".

Glad to see the club is finally taking some action to protect Max.

I love the language of the AFL. I assume "for clarification on" is intended to be a synonym for "to complain about".

Sorry but we are just as bad as everyone else. Oliver routinely flops for off the ball frees, a reputation he will likely be stuck with his whole career. Jetta ducks every time he is tackled and don't forget Tracs little incident on Saturday where he tried to hand ball to himself on the wing then jumped in the air and basically flapped his arms like a bird trying to get a holding free. And the goal Max kicked in the last qtr came from what looked alot like an Oliver flick/throw handball to Viney, his hand ends in a fist but doesn't look like what made the ball move. Spargo ducks a bit as well but he gets a pass because he is knee high to a grasshopper so would likely be tackled high anyway.

Lucky frees and staging is just part is the game. As long as the free is technically there then I think it is fine. But players who do stage for frees that arnt there should be punished more harshly than they are.

You neglected to mention the plain FACT that these three/four of our brave lads are BALL players. The ones aforementioned by LDV and LH are not, and i don't care whether they won Brownlows or not.

Bump. I still think he'll poll very well in the Brownlow. AFL Brownlow Predictor has him on 23, tied with Grundy.  His biggest problem will be that winning sides usually get the 3's. In his best games he has been totally dominant though.  I reckon he'll get 4 best ons and a few 2's and 1's.  He'll certainly be very close to last years tally of 20. A great effort again by the champ!  Also, it was very decent of Grundy to acknowledge Gawn's effort on QB when asked who had won the head to head for the year - "You don't forget 34 possessions". I think these 2 are both stars and have a healthy respect for each other.

I doubt it Swooper.  Lost most of our matches which means even if BOG he is unlikely to get the 3 vote.

And then there's the Skull & his mates  who've been hating on Maxy since 2016.

I think he'll be best on V Sydney round 4, Collingwood QB, Adelaide and then North in the last round. You are right though, He won't win it but he'll do well.

Hope so and yes he should.  At the very least a bit of a gauge as to how much the umps like or dislike him given he's arguably been our best this season.

I think the Club will be making a massive mistake by not announcing Maxy as captain in 2020.

When people think of MFC they think of Maxy he is the standout choice.

3 All Australian Jackets, way overdue.

Make the Man Captain.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
