Eddie puts foot in mouth again. Eddie's gaffe

He ridiculed Cynthia Banham’s coin toss who was trying to balance herself with a walking stick as she had both her legs amputated after an airline crash.  Cynthia is an incredibly accomplished and courageous person and the Swans No 1 ticket holder.

To my mind this isn't about being pc it is about feeling empathy and showing respect.  If he could see the coin toss, Eddie could see her struggle.  Rightly, he has unreservedly apologised but this goes down as one of his most insensitive comments of all time.  Somehow, an apology over the airways doesn't seem enough.

Well said LH, as much as I loathe PC social engineering, big fan of good manners and basic respect.

To be fair, that is what being politically correct is about. It's just been hijacked to have a negative connotation by snowflakes who also hijacked the term snowflake, when it was originally used to refer to people like them - people that want to be free to say whatever they like, without consequence. Funnily enough when we're children, we're taught that the words that we use mean something and have consequences.

Eddie McGuire is of that similar ilk who thinks he should be able to say whatever he wants, without consequence.

Every season you can guarantee on Eddie opening his mouth and saying something inappropriate. He is a jerk who thinks he is funny. Disgusting comment.

Eddie should keep the pub and urinal talk to where it belongs.

His statement is interesting. After saying he apologizes "Unreservedly", he adds that the apology is to "anyone who took it that way".

This "if you were offended" tripe is added so when questioned, you can then say "Were you offended"? Why". It is aimed to make anyone who asks him about it, be put on the back foot to justify their outrage. he did it against Goodes as well.

It is the opposite of Unreservedly apologising.

I can't believe there is no game until 4:35 today. Its saturday arvo there should be a game on at either 1:45 or 2:10. I know having Thursday nights game takes a game away but we shouldn't have to wait all afternoon

Clash with a polo match perhaps?

Anyone notice the comment made last night about how it seems as though the Irish players are the only one who don't understand the 50 meter ruling clearly enough. Thought it was in poor taste by someone who owns  Irish racehorses etc.

As a disabled person myself, Eddie can shove his apology where it fits.

To say that his statement wasn’t about Cynthia is a disgrace. It was.

It was the reason he opened his cheap mouth.

Give me 5 minutes with McGuire and i would rip him to shreds, he has runs on the board over many years.

Agree totally J02. He says that he was in no way referring to the coin thrower Cynthia? Well, just who were you referring to Ed? Just how stupid do you think we all are? [censored].

That is ridiculous and I am sure you know it.

Are you seriously  saying that Eddie deliberately ridiculed a disabled person on a broadcast?

He clearly didn’t realise that the coin  tossing person was disabled, as his comment would have otherwise been disgusting and he is not that stupid. It wasn’t a slip of the tongue, it was a deliberate comment, making fun of the inability to toss a coin properly and clearly with no knowledge that the person was disabled

You obviously dislike Eddie as it shows in your post that he made the comment deliberately about a disabled person.

Of course he was referring to the coin thrower, he just wasn’t aware she was disabled.

He obviously didn’t see it. He looked up and saw the coin fly off to the side and cracked a joke.

I am sure you appreciate that he is a very experienced broadcaster and he would not deliberately alienate the entire viewing public by ridiculing a disabled person.

Seriously? I know you are being facetious.

You have now agreed with me, I think, in that we both agree with what he did, but that it was not deliberate.

Yes you are correct, he wanted to alienate the female viewers and get them to hate him.

Don’t put words in my mouth.

I have walked on canes every day for 50 years.

McGuire knew what was going on and what he said. He is an ignorant fool
