While it's a meaningless list, when was the last time we had five Demon players in a Top 50?

It's one of his worst lists yet, though.  Joe Daniher got a gig on there for a start.

In fairness he is predicting where they will be at the end of the season.  If you asked me to do it and believed Daniher will stay healthy, then he would be in.

In addition Max was ranked Number 1 by Robbo at the end of 2018.

He must of had a bad preseason to drop down to 6????

This is probably the first time ever going back to when Sheahan started doing the top 50.

So Robbo thinks Angus will go from 3rd best player as judged in the 2018 Brownlow to 43rd best as judged by him?  That totally discredits the whole thing!

As you know Luci, Robbo never lets logic get in the way of his drinking  thinking.

everyone knows the brownlow isnt a true representation of player ranking so not sure why you're using it to fit an argument. As good as brayshaw is he didnt even finish top 3 in our Bnf.

I would prefer Robbos view over an umpires view any day of the week.  Surely you’re not taking the Brownlow as your guide to the best players in the comp.

Not at all.  Just pointing that Robbo seems to be at the other extreme.  To put Angus at 43 is bizarre to me.  I would have him around #25.  Just my opinion.

Here are some alternative views:

Note:  'Roar' is a sports website where it's scribes are non-footballers who generally take an objective position - a refreshing read.  Their rankings above are based on a consensus of 3 or 4 of their writers - explains why there are some notable absences.  Roar's Top 10

Difficult to comment as no-one outlines their criteria: Club B&F would be a good start, 2019 upside would be another, AA selection.  However, the views seem fairly consistent.

I can't get behind the paywall so can't see all of Robbo's top 10.

1. Nat Fyfe

2. Dustin Martin

3. Patrick Dangerfield

4. Patrick Cripps

5. Lance Franklin

6. Max Gawn

7. Josh Kennedy (WCE)

8. Brodie Grundy

9. Josh Kelly

10. Clayton Oliver

From a Dees perspective it looks about right to me.....The only other player that may be considered in the top 50 would be Harmesy as he probably had more influence on our games last year than Angus & T Mac.

Max, Clayton & Jack have proven over a number of years (or more than 2 anyway) that they are elite. I'm sure if Harmesy & Angus continued there great form this year then they would be elevated up the list.

B & F always a good indicator of a players year.

Not sure how many here have have Gus as the 3rd best Demon, let alone AFL player.

The best thing is we have quality players bobbing up in different situations all over as serious players/talent/contenders in different contexts.

All the Scum have, really, is the hope that Joe the Goose will amount to something, Anything

FWIW I reckon 4 may = more than 7, but more than happy we happy to have both.

Robbos top 50.

Carlton Draught,VB,Fosters,Hahn,Coopers,Xxxx,Bud,Becks,Tooheys,Cascade,D-ale,Reschs,Castle,Invalid Stout ,Guinness ,Schlitz,Singha,Tiger,Sapporo,555,333,Bests , Grolsch,Ballarat Bitter, Mountain Goat,Furphys, Heineken, East End, Swan Lager, Nastro Azzurro, NT lager, Little Creatures, Urquel, Miller’s, Mickeys,Steinlager,White Rabbit, Stella,Peroni, Schofferhoffer, Pabst, Newcastle, Tooth’s, IPA , Porter, Home brew , whatever’s leftover.

Does anyone really believe that Alex Rance is a Top 10 player in the league?  Outside of Robbo, the other Top 10's above have him in there.

Alex Rance is one of the best defenders of all time. Not sure how you can argue against a 5 time all-australian and AA captain. Mind boggling. I'm glad you aren't on the recruiting team.

Not this year at least ( too soon ?).

I think Angus Brayshaw is one of those rare commodities that is more appreciated by their own supporters ( and Roos and umpires) than outside watchers.

I think he is an absolute gem and by seasons end will not be all that far behind Viney in value to our team ( big call, I know !)

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
