To me, that's the only thing that I've been disappointed with.  I can handle the skills, fitness etc. at this time of the year.  But our pressure when the ball his the deck hasn't been great, and for the game style we have it needs to be better.  We bomb it in and if it isn't marked then we keep it in there and set up the wall.  Hasn't happened nearly enough today, although you would expect it to improve when the real stuff begins.

I expect it to be good now. I hope it improves when the real stuff begins.

We are down to 2 on the bench compared to lions with 8 they should run this out fairly easy I would have thought

how can may get a game round 1 on that display, always thought he was well over rated

At least we are having the same issues we had for most of last season - too easy to run it out of our forward 50 resulting in easy scores the other way.  So we know it can be fixed.

Stats - we score from 35% of I50, they score from almost 50%

We don’t have any crumbing forwards, been saying it for ages.

That's what Spargo should be, but he refuses to play that role.

I think he’s ok. For a young kid he is quite composed. I like him.

Yep, not seeing much composure with him this game. Maybe he prefers it on the outside, as he seems to panic when there's congestion.

nothing has changed ,same as 2017 good grief ,these players drink there own bath water

Bath water stuff by Melbourne thank god it's jlt need to lift only Smith and Jetta have played well the rest have been ordinary to woeful.

So many average players today.

Can't see Nibbler or Stretch getting a game Round 1.

It's a shame Garlett got injured. He's never been consistent, but he's the best small forward we've had this decade and can slot his 40 goals per year. Spargo is a smart footballer, but he just doesn't get involved enough either offensively or defensively. Kent is gone. Hannan is injured until second half of the year. JKH likely injured for a while too. Hopefully Bedford comes on quickly, as it's definitely an area we're lacking in.

Hore has been horrible today. Don't expect to see him play round 1 unless we are struggling with injuries.

Really need Brayshaw to clean up his disposal efficiency. He gets a lot of it, but he needs to be cleaner.

Players have been reading their own press. Time for Goodwin to put a media ban on some of these prima donas.

Our boys look absolutely spent. Not many positives so far.

May has been ordinary.

AVB is hard as nails.

We cant take a grab inside 50.

No crumber near the goals.

Oliver has had a 'mare.

Backline needs a lot of time together to work seamlessly, but thankfully time is something we have.

We can still win (which wont mean much), but this team has a long way to go to make it to what it was at the end of last season.

Bears actually want to win.

Hipwood kicked 2 goals in a minute. May went to him and he hasn’t touched it since. What more do you want from a FB?

without max today it would have been 20 goal hiding

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
