I guess, we have the confidence to know that they will not play anyone on the injury or rehab list, which is quite a number of our better players.

As someone else said on another thread, I just hate practice games. A meaningless game with the heightened risk of injury.  Hard grounds and players a little soft.  

Very true; practice games like this one, four weeks out from Round 1 are fraught with some peril and risk of injury. I'd rather belt the Filth during the season, and QB is ideal. The finals would be even better if we were to [censored] them clean(ly). I hope a Casey-based team is selected for this practice match for so many reasons ...

    I imagine this is intended mostly as a 'live' feel-through of the new rules with active AFL umpiring and opposition. If so, seems odd that we've hooked up with Collingwood for such an exercise - possibly our closest competitor for the season ahead.

    I know that both teams will be aware of each other's general game-plans and tactics soon enough once the season proper is underway, but why give away any unnecessary insights in the early planning stages?

    To gain insights. And I doubt that Goodwin and Buckley will be looking to out-fox each other, so it suggests an incredibly co-operative and mature approach from both teams. It also shows the confidence our football department.

    IMO both clubs have decided that there is value in playing a team both at their level, and not requiring any significant travel.

    I think the proximity to eachother's bases is the likeliest explanation.

    Elliott is back, looks really sharp

    Playing Reid as a forward

    Moore as a key defender

    Cox still taking a difficult mark and dropping the easy

    Maynard one of the standouts, looks a better player again from last year

    Sidebottom being Sidebottom

    Beames has done whole session

    Whole session has neen a practice game

    Way back at the start of preseason I dropped by after watching our boys train and they were doing match sim with tackling, looked serious high intensity meanwhile we were doing running and light skills.

    Nathan Jones basically played down this up-coming match Vs Collingwood as a glorified training session.

    I wouldn't be surprised if there's no scoring.

    Seeing all the injuries around the league id actually be happy if this was kept to a bare minimum. Maybe 2 x 20 minute halves. Especially if the Pies ground is still rock hard. 

    Teams that are super keen on match simulation just sound like coaches who can’t create drills that replicate in game scenarios.

Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

      A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

      Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
