Troy Broadbridge, Melbourne Footballer (40 games, 2 goals between 2001 and 2004) married Trisha Silvers on 18 December 2004. Eight days later, while spending their honeymoon in the Phi Phi Islands, Thailand, Troy drowned after being swept out to sea by the tsunami that followed the Indian Ocean earthquake and killed an estimated 227,898 people.

We will never forget him.

Very sad times. I still remember his phenomenal improvement that prior season, from good to better, then better to fabulous - a real surprise package onfield. Much loved by supporters, his promise was huge for a good pre-season and a very big 2005 season. Never forgotten.

Recalling the way the news came in that Boxing day... it was just a growing disaster.

Cannot think of any other natural event that killed so many people.

RIP Troy and so many others who perished that day in terrible circumstances.

14 years ago. I heard a news report late Christmas day that something bad had happened to parts of Asia. I had been to Patong Beach 7 years earlier. That was all gone.

I had to look up the word “Tsunami” had not heard it before.

It was then i realized what had really happened.

The movie that was made, i cannot watch it. I have been to too many Asian Beaches to eat, swim and party out under a full moon

RIP Troy. Never Forgotten

Troy's short life and developing career were celebrated a few months later at our first match of the season, under lights vs Essendon at the MCG.  I'll never forget the eerie silence that enveloped the MCG during the pre-match that evening.  For many of us, I think it was the  first full realisation of what had happened, not just to Broady, but to the many thousand others who lost their lives in the tsunami.  The Dees had an easy win, and dedicated the victory to Troy ..... very fitting1

I also remember the great work done by the MFC in building a new school on the Phi Phi Islands in Broady's memory.  Many of the players of the day gave up their time to assist with the building project.

RIP Broady.  Never forgotten.

RIP Broady, and respects to your family, who would undoubtedly be feeling your loss today.

Terrific footballer, and by all reports a great bloke also.

Not forgotten.

Tragic loss. I can always remember his last game he played for us against Essendon in the elimination final and he had Hird as an opponent. I thaught he beat Hird as well.

Agree with previous posters. He played a blinder in his last match - a final v Essendon. I was also at the Troy Broadbridge match the next year. Yes, it was very emotional.

Clearly a top bloke ... and would have gone on to be a top player.

RIP.

It’s hard to believe that next year will mark 15 years. The sick feeling I got as a young man upon hearing he was missing still lingers. Feels like yesterday.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
