Great news. His experience for the young guys will be invaluable. Just shows we have come a long way. In past most retired players would go to the opposition.

Great to see BV stick around clearly a popular guy around the club and hopefully helps fast track the young guys to achieve their best at AFL level

From the sounds of things, Bernie and (to a lesser extent) his Dad are pretty well ingrained in the club and contribute to the ethos of Esprit de Corps. I was wondering how that was going to be replaced. Great to see Bernie is hanging around and placed with the group who needs to know what the club is all about before they make the jump to more senior footy.

Excellent news.

Welcome (back) Bernard!

Awesome news. The joint remains pretty. Would love Bernie to be involved in some capacity when we win our next flag. The man is a legend.

I really like this appointment. It's great to have people like Bernie associated with the club.

Love Bernie. He will be great to have back around the club ❤️?

Would seem to be a person that lights up a training ground or change rooms.

Every organisation needs someone who provides humour, enthusiasm and positivity.  And someone who the young guys can go to for advice or who will lend them an ear.

It's not long ago that an appointment of an ex-player in a part-time position might have looked like a "job for a mate" without there necessarily being a genuine role for the ex-player concerned. I don't know what Bernie might be doing but I feel much more confident that it will be a genuine job using his specific skills for a good purpose.

This was hinted at around the club B&F or there abouts.  So good to see the club just getting on with sealing the deal on these things.  Bernie would be such a great asset to have around the club and is such an all round top bloke.

I recall reciently watching one of the Fox Footy shows which had a feature on David Rodan and his role as a goal umpire.  Someone made the comment how umpiring could be fairly soul destroying at times and one of the biggest things that D-Rod bought to the umpiring group was his irrepressible positive attitude and fun loving outlook on life.  Can't what under rate character traits like these bring to a team environment and I think Bernie would be similar.

Bernie himself hinted at it in a media piece after he retired which talked about how he'd formally qualified as a real estate agent but wasn't sure if he'd follow that path full-time given he may take a possible role with the club.

Yeah cool, that rings a bell.

On reflection, it wouldn't be that hard of a choice would it.  Full tine real estate agent Vs hanging around a few days a week with your mates and a group of young new footballers embarking on their career.  I dare say it, a contunued association and maintenance of his public profile within the MFC could be good for his business too.  Probably a good transition from full time professional sportsman back into the real World all round.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
