Thanks for the contract info folks.

I can't find any public advice from the club on those players.

A poster reported that ANB signed four weeks ago but not released.  Could be happening with others.

Shall update table as and when the club makes public releases.  If I miss them will be grateful to posters letting me know.

Cheers

ANB signed 2 year extension at the start of the year based on 2018 form.........clearly got his cash and lost the ability to afl

Updated for Garlett, Lewis, Maynard, T. Smith, Keilty.

image.png.552970cc7fd1bb163eb0f783a5107f57.png

Note:  I previously had Maynard on the Primary List but in fact he was a Rookie.

This means we had only 38 Primary Listed players in 2019.  We are allowed 40.  So the Summary table will always show two extra List spots to the number of players out.  So right now that is 4 List spots but two players out: Garlett and Lewis.

Looking at the 2019 OOC players and what imv appears likely:

Primary List:

  • Baker:  re-contract - needs injury free run to show what he can do.
  • Frost:  trade
  • Kennedy-Harris:  no rumours, probably delist
  • Neal Bullen:  rumoured to have been re-contracted for 2 years but no announcement
  • J. Smith:  rumoured to have been re-contracted but no announcement
  • Stretch:  no rumours, probably delist
  • J.Wagner:  no rumours, probably delist

Rookie List:

  • Chandler:  re-contract
  • Dunkley:  re-contract
  • Lockhart:  re-contract
  • Bradke: re-contract
  • Walker:  delist.  Took  a position in admin with the club mid 2019 so unlikely to don footy boots again. guy-walkers-new-offfield-role

imv we have better talent and depth among our Rookies than the Primary List players, with the exception of Baker.

This doesn't bode well for JKH, Stretch and Wagner.

Hey guys, See below for the rules on the playing list. In summary, we can only have 44 players all up (not including CAT B players). Because of the pre season (Lockhart + C.Wagner) and mid season (Dunkley) picks, we had 45 players by the end of this season. Basically, we need 1 less player than what we finished the season with.

16.          Player Lists – 2018 - 2022

(a)       Each AFL Club shall maintain their Lists during the Term as follows:

(i)         The number of Players on the Club’s Primary List shall be not more than 40 and not less than 38;

(ii)        The number of Players on the Club’s Category A Rookie List shall be not more than 6 provided that a Club must not have more than 44 Players on their Primary List and Category A Rookie List at any time;

(iii)       The number of Players on the Club’s Category B Rookie List shall be not more than 3.

(b)       Any amount paid to a Rookie Player in excess of the base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be included in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments. For the avoidance of doubt, the minimum base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be excluded in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments for each Rookie Player.

(c)       Players included on a Category A Rookie List shall be eligible for selection in a Match from 1 November 2017 notwithstanding any contrary provision in this Agreement or the AFL Rules. Prior to 31 October 2017, AFL shall make all necessary amendments to the AFL Rules so that they shall provide for a Player on a Category A Rookie List to be eligible for selection in any Match played after 1 November 2017.

UPDATE. UPDATE. UPDATE.

Did a bit more checking on Maynard. It turns out my data was correct - he was promoted to the senior list but club website incorrectly shows him as a Rookie maynard-elevated-to-senior-list

So we did have 39 Primary Listed Players for 2019.  We had 6 'A' Rookies and 2 'B' Rookies

This is the updated table showing the List and announced ins/outs so far

Note:  Corey Wagner was re-contracted as a Rookie.

Many thanks  @xman97for list rules.  Very helpful and have incorporated them into the table.

guy walker retired due to injuries, a pretty obvious one we all saw coming i guess however it does leave us very thin on talls again with keilty and tsmith going too and frost looking shaky... makes me wonder why we let pedo go :(

Updated for Walker hanging up the boots and new contracts to: Baker,  ANB, J Wagner, C Wagner, Dunkley, J Smith, Lockhart and Chandler.

Any corrections please let me know.  I will update games played when the full list is completed, post trade/draft.

At least half the list OOC in 2020.  It will be a very busy time.  Importantly, a very uncertain time for a lot of players.

And Oskar Baker two year contract. A whole bunch of B graders, except perhaps Baker.

B graders is generous.

Staggering that we re-signed so many ordinary players. Let's hope we improve our system so significantly that we make ordinary players look good.

So by my count that's 7 list spots free right now assuming Frost, Stretch and JKH don't stay with us.

Sign Tomlinson
Trade for Langdon
At least 3 draft picks (1st, 3rd, 4th round or split/move the picks)
Possibly 1 rookie draft pick
Possibly 1 open spot carried over summer

Wouldn't surprise me if there's at least one contracted player traded to clear some list space and cap room.

Updated for Draft picks.

Does anyone have an update on Bradtke's contract status.  I expect that we will keep him.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
