I've posted this before, but i don't like the concept of reserving lower numbers for better players because of the message it implies for those players who are given the higher numbers. It's effectively saying, "We're not really that sure you'll make it, so we're putting you down the end with the other nqrs." I appreciate the argument that some players might be motivated by that insult and work harder to prove their value. But for every player that does that there might equally be not only another high-numbered player for whom it has the opposite effect but also the possibility that players granted low numbers who allow that to go to their head and don't work as hard as they should.

I would rather a more measured approach which might place a new player next to a player who might be good for their development. Preuss next to Gawn, for example. And it doesn't just have to be development in a skills sense. It might be trying to maximise their personal development. Hypothetically (because I don't know the players), it might be best for his development for Bedford to be next to Jetta in the locker room, so give him the vacant number 40.

These are my following suggestions;

#1  Pruess

#12 May

#16 Kolodjashnij

#21 Jordon

#23 Bedford

#27 Hore

#32 Sparrow (I think there is video footage of him wearing this jumper number at junior club level?)

#34 Neitschke

#43 Chandler

#46 Walker

#50 Bradtke (I like the idea of him wearing the number his Father wore in the NBL for the Melbourne Tigers)

I like the idea of May in number 1.

Reminds me of the days of 98 when Shanners was the full back. He will be always a Saint historically but I always had a soft spot for him.

For some reason, I have never liked number 1.

Bit like 31 post RDB.

Or 13. In the old days,  MFC did not use 13.

So remove 1,31 and 13 please.

Numbers pretty predictable although 12 for young Toby is a big endorsement obviously think the young fella has some talent - hopefully turns out to be Wizard like :)

This bloke is a big get for us, not just for what he can and will do on the field, but also for what the opposition think he might do.

Agree Red. He plays hard at it and the opposition usually know the danger of getting in his way

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
