I'd take Thursday night games but with a preference for Friday nights.

Thursday is still terrific prime time exposure for sponsors and an opportunity to get a big crowd into an earlier game. If we get two or three of these Thursday night games and also play Anzac Day Eve, QBD and a Round 1 blockbuster against say Collingwood and throw in one or two Friday nights, we're a massive chance to break our attendance record again.

I am one of these weird elders who would rather see us play at 2:10 on Saturday arvo.

Not a huge fan. Was happy with the current number of Thurs games but more than that is a bit silly.

Im with you, Sat arvo will always be the best time to watch footy.

Given that ANZAC eve 2019 is a Wed, I'm wondering if a Thurs night game may come into play for us.

Happy for Thursday night games if inter state.

Prefer Friday games if at the g or ethibad (yes, I know). Loved going to those two finals, with post work beers and build up. Made for (very) late nights though.

Wow!, Monday morning games, that's coming out of right field!

it's happening...

I think they may also soon trial some Sunday night games as well.

Think about it... the networks already have the sunk costs in the form of the broadcasting rights. Any added variable costs of commentary teams and crew are readily covered by advertising revenue.

They could start with say WCE V Collingwood at 6pm Perth time.

Tipping we're getting one Thursday night game - West Coast V Melbourne in July at Optus.

I think we'll also get 3 Friday night games - one home MCG blockbuster against a big drawing VIC side. An away Etihad game. And one interstate.

Could have a Friday, then a Thursday before Anzac Eve. Would like that very much.

Thoughts?

Just a humble request from an auld curmudgeonly Demons supporter.

When you post these links, can you post the link to the final destination, eg SEN or AFL, so that we auld curmudgeonly Demons supporters don't have to go to the Evil place?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
