Farewell Jesse Hogan

We'll get to 800 over 8 years if Jesse wins a few Colemans

For Freo, with Ross Lyon coaching....not much chance.

I do just want to say that unlike nearly all players that leave Melbourne I will have a large soft spot for Hogan.

I think he's definitely wired differently to some, who wouldn't be so concerned being away from family and friends. but he's a hugely talented and smart footballer.

I wish him well.

That pick swap...something afoot you reckon? Got a feeling we're not done.

its a curiosity isnt it..as I wondered in another thread...we have days to complete pick swaps...but only until 8.30 tonight to do another deal for a player.

The trade feels a bit underwhelming but we probably couldn't do much more seeing as Jesse was determined to return to Perth....might as well move on at least we have 2 players who should strengthen the best 22 for 2019

What if the kid we draft at 23 is another Oliver.

How would the deal look then?

I have already had my meltdown and cannot work out what is going on in Hogans head. I still think this "I am homesick" twist for the playing life of an AFL footballer is ridiculous.

And as you ridiculous as it may seem to you, this has always existed for some footballers. It may be ridiculous but there is a big enough body of evidence to tell you that it well and truly exists.

According to Josh Mahoney:

Jesse wanted to leave and his preference was Fremantle. Leave on good terms. If Melbourne played in Perth he'd be playing for us.

"Wanted to leave" is different to wanted to go home, or am I reading too much into this?

Not to wish injury, but wouldn't feel bad if his foot's [censored].

Not a bad outcome; although only time will tell.

Glad it's all over. Time to kick back with a glass of whisky and some cheese and biscuits.

What sort?

I think you’re reading too much into it.

I'm disappointed because I think Jesse has talent. Thanks Jesse. I hope you don't play well against us though!

Anything else said re our activity?

Are we done, or still got something cooking

What dippy is saying is that pick 65 is the deal we got for Kent. We then on traded that in the hogan deal.

Thanks, but I know that and posted it earlier.

What I was saying is that you look at all the deals to see how we went, not just one.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?
