I don't know that he ever directly said that. Wasn't it reported by the media as the price and attributed to him? He did say something about the price being one of the biggest ever paid.

I think it’s telling that the media chatter has moved on from Hogan, I feel like if the deal was still on the cards there’d be mentions of it but it appears to me that both clubs have moved on.

Too many players in limbo:  Neale, Hogan, May, KK and possibly Beames (Lions won't let him go if they don't get Neale).

Freo causing quite a log jam so something needs to happen soon.

Anyone ready to guess when the AFL will get involved and kick Freo into gear or call in the mediators for the Neale and Hogan trades.

That 'kick into gear' is well overdue - the Freo brains trust considers itself uniquely superior, obviously; so superior that is almost infringing on the flexibility of the trade protocols. Two nights, then the gun.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the Mahoney but I am sure that was the MFCs approach. For some reason I am sure I saw him say it on the box in one of those 10 second clips they have or my brain is becoming frayed.

I'm guessing Josh carrying a knife won't be enough.

This actually movement, it will be helpful to get this done.

If it's 11 for Lobb + 25, Freo may offer us 5 + 25 which is close enough to 5 + 23 for me

If it's 11 for Lobb + 43 who knows what might happen.

23 or 25 are not first rounders. Mahoney said 2 first rounders at the start of trade week. Talk of these trades is media speculation and nothing more. Wasting pick 5 on May is ridiculous.

Yeah, I don't know why people have softened so much on this. Is it because "someone" leaked that we'd take 6 and 23? Because I sure as hell don't want to accept that, especially if the 6 has to go to Gold Coast.

2 first round picks is the price. That's what we paid to get him before putting in 6 year of development. He hasn't gotten any worse.

For those of you forgetting, 3 and 13 is what we paid for Jesse. A season before he could even play for us:

No, we paid 3 and a downgrade of 13 to 20. We got pick 20 back in that trade.

Good. I hope he does. I watched Hogan as a junior and immediately knew he was the best key back since Hurley. Currently we are screaming out for a key back. The answer is slapping us right in the face.

We need him to make our backline great.

As the sun sets on Freo's pre-Christmas extravaganza, it will not matter who they elect to get, at bargain prices, and who they eventually receive. It just ain't going to do them any good; their whole outfit is in shambles at present and recuperation is so far away that they'd waste the careers of any new blood to their lists.

SEN saying (Tom morris on Fox) saying hogan deal worth $8 mil over 8 years ??!!

Here's one article.

And another.

Quote

If you stack up a 23-year-old key forward and everything he’s done over his career stacks up against everyone so we think he’s right up with the highest anyone’s been traded for and we think Fremantle might have that opportunity with picks they may gain,

And another.

Quote

Basically, if Fremantle want to get Jesse Hogan, they know the deal they have to give for us and Jesse's aware of that.

They haven't spoken to us about anything that entertains us at all about doing a deal.

...

At the moment the moment the offer they're giving to us doesn’t help us in any way.

And what he actually said...

3 & 20 is significantly better than 5 & 23 or 5 & 25, especially as we have developed him over 6 years

Right, the point is we gave up two first round picks. I'd take 5 and 11 and give them back change too.

Jesse'd be on money that puts him next to Fyfe on their list. What would they ask for him, what would we be willing to pay?

good 'ol tommy - take it to the bank

that would only push up his trade value

$1m pa is pretty standard for a top forward.  An with inflation it won't be much in years 6-8.

But 8 years!!  Can't be too much wrong with his foot!!

Edit:  Update: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-jesse-hogans-large-contract-demands-contributed-to-fremantle-rejecting-melbournes-trade-offer/news-story/578fbad1c64f774a808b80e3b8707900

JESSE Hogan’s camp asked Fremantle for an $8 million deal over eight years before the Dockers emphatically rejected Melbourne’s trade offer.

Fremantle was prepared to consider a three or four-season contract, but considered eight years as a leap of faith too far.

"...the Dockers spent significant time weighing up whether Hogan was worth it all. In the end, he wasn’t and the club’s statement was not a bluff".

A Hogan trade is not dead in the water, but it appears Melbourne will have to buckle first.

from my perspective i wanted 5 and 6 for hogan

instead we're losing him for...not a great deal

I agree, but It's all relative to a Clubs needs.Simply put it sounds so 1 sided but depends if your club has strength in certain areas. For instance we are strong in the Midfield so we would value a mid at lower than a quality CHB or FB.Freo dont want to give up a quality mid for a Forward who wont see the ball without the traded mid.Hogan isnt worth much to a team that struggles to get the ball inside their F50

If they're willing to pay 8 over 8 (and considering the source [TM not you Demented] I have some doubts) then how can they not give up two first rounders.

Can't have your cake * and eat it too.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
