denham seems to report EVERY YEAR that hogan is leaving

you don't need to read it @Superunknown

it's just all speculation with lots of ifs, maybes, and perhaps

no actual quotes other than jesse saying 'i'm happy at the dees' from when he signed in october, 2016

I managed to get the article and kill the paywall but killed my browser tab and can't recover it. Otherwise I'd post. Sounds like more than the usual speculation to me.

Greg Denham is reporting that he is freo bound and we get May as part of the deal. I would not be happy with simply receiving May. We need outside mids with speed and if we can’t fulfill that deficiency then we won’t go deeper next year. I realise we have problems down back too, but Hogan is worth more than that.

i don’t won’t him to leave tbh. Something is brewing tho.

If we were to get picks 4 & 5 (I think that’s what Freo will have) could we not then split them up with other picks/players and land May and a Mid.

We need to be creative and go hard.

The Australian.

We would survive without Hogan. We have shown we can.

3 things:

1. You don't trade key position talent - who was the last club to voluntarily trade a proven key forward?

2.  No decent forward wants to go to Freo. Their game plan sucks. Not even Buddy would kick goals for them.

3. Unless somebody has solid evidence that Hogan is not happy or wants to head back to WA, can we please stop discussing trading him, as this will not happen.

Hawks/Freo - Trent Croad

Melbourne - Frawley

Hawks - Franklin

What if we lose Hogan and get Preuss, Gaff, May, Shiel, Jack Martin as well as getting Lever back next year - would people be happy then?

lol why not add Cripps, Mitchell & Kelly while we are at it?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-08/after-the-siren-the-trade-that-shook-the-footy-world-in-2001

"Chris Judd, Luke Ball and Luke Hodge had had the recruiters salivating all year. The Hawks would eventually choose Hodge and would not experience even a moment of buyer's remorse. He has been one of the all-time greats of a club chock full of champions.

The Croad trade remains one of the all-time great ones. The final deal also saw emerging, but homesick key defender Luke McPharlin also traded to the Dockers, with the Hawks receiving additional draft picks in return."

Preuss comes for peanuts (2nd or 3rd round), Gaff is a free agent (no picks required), Shiel/Martin and May can come via Freo trade (for eg 2 early picks), Lever is already on the list so doesn't require anything. Perhaps discuss the topic than be a smartarse? It's all very doable, as Mahoney has said, we have enough cap space for 2 stars. Vince retiring ($500k), Hogan leaving ($800k), Lewis/Jones contracts likely front loaded, extra space via the new cap plus whatever we have backloaded since the new system took place (which North have done). Obviously we would lose players, possibly Frost, Kent, Hunt etc.

In what world does one club land 4  of the top 10 "potential big name moves" in a single trade period...

Why would GC want to trade with us for another top pick which will just leave in 2 years?

Why would GWS trade one of their big name mids to a direct competitor when they are in their premiership window? (unless its for HUGE overs)

I'm all for being proactive during trade period... But there is no chance in hell we (or any team) will land ALL of May, Gaff, Sheil & Martin. [censored] I dont even think you could assemble a trade period like that on AFL Evolution.

Sorry mate its just not possible.

Port did last year.

Gold Coast need and will get players.

GWS would trade Shiel as he's likely to leave next year plus they are under massive cap pressure.

I'm not saying my scenario would or will happen, I'm just providing ideas that it could happen. I do not rate Shiel, May or Martin as highly as most, even though they are handy players.

My actual point was, would people be happy to lose Hogan if we gained better players and more depth.

For forward/defensive pressure, better team balance, yes.

Minus Hogan (and some others)

+ outside/mid/speed (whatever it is people say we need and whatever level they want to attribute)

KPD (i.e. May or May-like)

Preuss

+ Lever back

I think with Weed, Tmac et al up fwd we are set there. Unless they want to try Hogan at CHB or back (which some here poo-pooh rightly or wrongly)

unless they dont get a pick for neal and it's all tied up in a 3 way with more players than picks... i.e. we get Brayshore and May for hogan and GC get Neal basically for May... ok then picks to balance

I wouldn't say Watts, Motlop, McKenzie, Thomas & Rockliff are anywhere near the calibre of players you mentioned.

One was kicked out of his club, one is the biggest down hill skier in the league, a B grade free agent and two players delisted..

They should have 2 picks after the Neale trade.

Its clear a lot of Denham's article is predicated on Freo making Hoges the mother of all offers. It all depends on whether he bites. There's obviously something in the air with Neale looking to go to Brisbane though.

great news! I want Cerra and an early pick though.

All these people can shove their goal stats up their behinds. Hogan is expendable. And rightly so. You don't chase jesse, then you're out the door like Jack Watts.

I think he's just trying to put 2 and 2 together and coming up with banana, he's thoughts would be that they could only let Neale go if they had plans for the pick they received. Last year they used the 2 picks they had and realistically they should use picks again because unless a player wants to go back west, why would you join a team that clearly needs to continue to bottom out and get some quality in the younger guys, Cerra and Brayshaw were a great start but they haven't got much more good young talent.

You constantly post members on here should ban themselves from this forum and they should feel embarrassed when posting opinions.

Now you tell them to shove stats up their backside. Why don’t you have an exit interview from here and make sure the door doesn’t hit you on the backside on the way out you troll.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
