Not to crap on Martin (as he means well) but the fact the nostalgia binge and obsessing over the past ended one week into the Geelong game was a good reason why I have enjoyed this finals series from the Hawthorn game onwards.

I went onto the Carlton Instagram page earlier today and one comment from their fans summed up this kind of stuff for me. They put up a photo of Harry Madden getting a rub down during the 95 finals and the poster remarked that it was a good sign of how badly they were going that they had to fall back into nostalgia to generate content.

We should focus on the players this week, not the peripheral stuff.

Serious, respectful question, why not both? I see us becoming a great club again as more opportunity to enjoy our history as well, instead of feeling like it is faded glory.

Because I think things have been too slanted to the nostalgia side for too long. In some ways, I understand the reasons but the time to boost supporter spirits in dark times is not now.

Even then it made some people feel complacent as they deluded themselves into thinking we were a 'great club' when we were one who hadn't won a premiership since the introduction of decimal currency.

Beautiful work by Flanners again. I had a catch-up with him last week at a footy art exhibition in which I’ve got a couple of pieces. He doesn’t support any one club, but Flanners love for the Dees is entirely one with his love of football. He, more than anyone, knows there is no football without the Melbourne Football Club, and as the game’s essential truth-teller, he feels duty bound to romanticise on the reasons why. This is why so many of us love him, because he gives a voice to our emotional investment in the game and the club like no other in the media today. Believe it, he wants us to go all the way, because football needs that story.

If anyone’s interested, the exhibition is at Glen Eira Council Gallery, until 7 October. Called Aussie Rules: Passion and Pain. Lots of good stuff there, excluding my own ?. The only footballers to turn up were Alex Neal Bullen (his sponsor had a piece) and Billy Stretch. Very classy boys both, remarkably engaged for 22 year olds. Impressive. Had a good chat with Billy, particularly as he’s studying physio. He was fresh from his surgery, and is itching to get back out there. They too are fully invested in the Club’s legacy. Go Dees.

We are an eclectic bunch here on Demonland, drawn together by our love of the Mighty Demons. In the words of the lauded wordsmith Jeff Fenech," I love youse all."

We've got this.

I loved what Bob Murphy wrote in his recent article that sometimes, like the 2016 doggies and the 2018 dees, " a team can heal a whole club" I think we're in the middle of that process. 2 games to complete it!

Absolutely awesome stuff!  Yep, brought me to tears, too!

Also reminded me of Rupert McCall's work a few years back, and I reckon it deserves a reprise...

The MFC has a great history.  Never forget,  the MFC started this great game!  The rules of the game are officially known as "The Rules of the Melbourne Football Club"!  We need to be proud of of our history!

And, we need to be proud of our boys as they add a new page to that glorious history!

GO DEES!!!

But if we did win one and then capitulate like the dogs have I'd be forken furious.
Was bad enough in 2001.

I know it was heartfelt but I'm not in a soppy mood about the MFC for once.

I want blood. Not tears.

Long as the blood and tears are spilled by the Eagles and their fans.

In retrospect, this Martin Flanagan piece has come at the wrong time.  When we needed our players feeling aggressive and feisty, and wanting blood ...

We did not want them feeling all melancholy, & feeling warm, fuzzy, and longing for people & things of our past.

Thanks, but not next time Martin... do this at the start of a season... not entering Finals.

We wanted hardened soldiers out there today. searching for blood.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
