The same Freo that last by 23 goals today?? Ain't happening!

Yeah sorry @MSFebey but the likelihood of Fremantle beating Collingwood is about as likely as peace in the middle east.

Yeah sorry, this mob can get stuffed. Not gonna waste my energy barracking for them next week. Cancel the game.

Ugh just saw the ladder. Cant believe the pies are third. If its a tigers pie gf i may leave the country

And they've still only beaten one team in the top 8. Let's not forget they finished bottom 6 last year thus got handed a gift-wrapped fixture for 2018.

Funny how the media have completely ignored this fact. Doesn't fit Eddie's narrative I guess.

Yeah I’m considering going down the coast to a secluded location away from all media if that is the GF.

Actually to be fair, they did finally mention it today because by defeating Port they knocked them out of the 8. I actually wonder if its ever been done before? A team finishing in the 8 without actually beating anybody in it.......that could be us!

Why so much negativity in this thread ?

Tomorrow we beat the Eagles and book our first finals berth since 2006.  It feels like Xmas Eve!  ?

Geez, I dunno, maybe the last TWELVE YEARS of missing finals and blowing every opportunity to make them? Might have something to do with it.

We had every chance to book our place in finals last week and, yet again, we blew it. Why would anything be different tomorrow? We'll probably blow it again and everything will come down to our final match next week... and we all know how that'll end.

If we beat the Eagles, we play GWS the next week, for a home final against them. Lose and it could be against Hawks at the G or Swans at the SCG.

We have to win. Cannot rely on Port losing to the bombers. Port should win meaning we need a win v Giants or Eagles

Exactly. We have to win, it's as simple as that. We've blown our first chance of 3, we have 2 chances left. We cannot blow both.

I think the loser of Hawthorn/Sydney takes 6th place, we would get 5th, GWS 7th?

Edit: Beat WCE / Lose to GWS and we are 8th with a final against them

Edit 2: Lose to WCE and Beat GWS and our % decides whether we're 7th or 8th with a final v Syd/Haw

If we make finals. Most likely scenario is we play either Hawthorn or Geelong at the G. Or GWS away!

I`d rather play interstate than the G lol

I want the cats, if we make finals they are the only team I want.

It feels a bit like the entire season has built around that narrative, doesn't it? All the way from round 1 through to finals. Two agonising losses to the Dees in the H&A season and they get their chance of revenge in the finals. Third time lucky?

Of course, I won't count my chickens before they hatch. We're still just as likely to miss finals as we are to make them.

It feels like the night before the rapture.

The only team I want is Port at the G. I've shifted my expectations from top 4 to Gold Coast creating the biggest upset in history. Imagine how much [censored] would hit the fan! ?

Oh I ain’t counting a thing! Finals are a massive “if” as far as I’m concerned.

2 cards left in the deck, one of them needs to be an ace.

Absolutely, we would smash Port if we played them in the finals. Would be a dream come true.

Just can't see Geelong dropping that game though; they've been handed the most ludicrously soft fixture to end the year.

We can dream though!

It’s like that Xmas Eve when I was a kid and I was sure I was going to get a Mongoose BMX with pegs. Very exciting. Come Xmas Day I got some lime green BMX from Kmart I had to assemble myself. I put it together and ghosted it down Jells Road (Possibly the steepest hill in Melbourne?)

Go to bed, sweet Ethan.  Tomorrow you get the Mongoose you've always dreamed of.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
