Changes v West Coat - Round 22

I'm curious.

Will the blazers make a comeback for this game? For if we are playing the West Coat, the most appropriate opponent for them should be the Melbourne blazer.

You want JKH out, who had the same possessions as ANB, but unlike ANB who turned over half of them, every one of JKH's were to our advantage. He took a few marks as well,  unlike ANB, who dropped the crucial one in the last that may have led to a goal and us close to hitting the lead.

That was JKH's best game for us this season and one of ANB's worst and you want to drop JKH, who at least plays footy, in favour of a skilless runner.

WOW!

Yes, ANB has been very good this year, while he has a number of people who might not understand his role, one bad game won't get him dropped. JHK just doesn't do much IMO, he certainly wasn't the damaging game breaker you've talked him up to be. I want him to succeed but JHK doesn't have the ability to play ANB's role, and Melk is coming back so JHK will make way for him (IMO).

We will need to make McGovern accountable but a lot of this will be seen in our delivery inside 50. If we're going to bomb aimlessly again it will be Aliir all over again.

Agreed, and we also managed to make Magic Door look like a world beater for a quarter as well, McGovern is a class above both Aliir and Daw so I think we need to not only get it smarter into the Fwd50, but also negate him completely.

In all the games we lost this year, ANB butchered the ball and cost us badly from his few possessions. He also fumbled, dropped marks and got in the way of other players. He was also hopeless in front of goal.

Is that his role? If so he does it well. IMO.

He has had some good games this year but against Sydney he and Garlett were our two worst by some margin

Tim Smith in and to McGovern?

He had 14 disposals at 100% efficiency on Sunday ?

Of which he only had 1 inside 50, zero goal assists, 2 clearances and kicked 0.0. He does no damage at all with what little of the ball he gets.

Outs: JKH, Hogan, Hunt

Ins: Kent, Hibb & Melk.

Jeffy on thin ice. Ped & Tmac to be our key forwards and can rotate out.

LOWER YOUR EYES THIS WEEK DEMONS AND WE WILL BE A 5 GOAL BETTER SIDE.

I thought he was set up for a good game on Sunday when he hit a beauty of pass to Oliver in the first term.

I then felt as though I didn't see him until later on in the second half.  His spot would be one in question with others ready to return.

I said at the time that that was the best kick of his career, and I agree, it was the only time he was genuinely involved in the match for the day.

As a defensive wingmen, only 10 goals kicked also. Not sticking up for the guy, but thought ANB was by far WOG

5 goals might still not be enough - Umpires will give them 4 over there and we lost by 9 points

Not keen on Weideman replacing Hogan. He hasn't shown anything in his games this year he's ready... As bad as Pedersen was I'd keep him in to releave TMac of ruck duties. I wouldn't mind seeing Hannan back into the side, he's a proven goal kicker. Play Petracca as a permanent forward also.

In: Hannan, Melksham, Hibberd

Out: Hogan, JKH, Spargo

Agree that ANB had a shocker, but he has some credits in the bank.

On the topic of ANB, he needs a big game this weekend.  He routinely puts in poor performances against the better teams this year.  The same could have been said about Harmes, but he’s stepped up in the second half of the year.  Hopefully ANB can be next...

Prefer Jeffy or Spargo rested and JKH staying in

Otherwise good

I think Spargo gives us decent spread. JKH simply is just a VFL footballer unfortunately

Yes we have a few of those types that don’t stand up in big games. ANBs disposal has always been terrible, he really needs to fix it if he wants to be best 22 in future. As for Harmes, super impressive form recently, some of the things he’s doing reminds me of De Goey, but maybe it’s just the blonde locks. Good on him I say.

Kicked the goal to ensure the win against the crows through his massive work rate, and has kicked over a goal a game. In 5 games jhk has kicked only 1 and you want him playing in that position?? Melk will be back to play the role jhk has for the last few weeks and clearly hasn't done that well doing it

I wouldn't mind both Hannan and Fritsch playing across half forward.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
