we retained percentage

there are still two games to go

Trac, Oliver, Gus were pretty good today

so many baffling non-calls

Football gods say no

Just a rotten result. We will beat Meth Coke next week.

We can still make it,,, but we're not convincing at all... how we go about it, under pressure in big games.

3 out of about 8 or 9 mid rotations is not enough, good enough...

We're so lucky we have Jetta with us... and Harmes is an up and comer,,, but so is 2020, up and coming.

We need too bet better off half back, Re new talents. (after Hibbo & Vince, Lew, Jetta, etc).  We have to draft for that future now.

We ought to get after Whitfield as our end of 2019,,, main target.   And i hope we've already been talking.

.......

Now we have to get after trades this year.   Pity we missed Sloane.  He would have been one off.

And we need players that have the vision to step thru traffic,,, thru the centre square, as we bring the footy upfield.

We falter, transitioning the middle.   good teams choke our midfield area, forcing us to play predictably.

Me too. I hate the pricks, but North have a rubbish list and can still make finals ahead of us. Jesus h Christ, North who finished what 17th last year and literally cannot buy a player?!

Is Greg Norman the goal kicking coach?

Haven't seen choking like this since Greg was in his prime.

Seriously, this off season, which sadly may well start in 2 weeks, the team needs to spend a hell of a lot of time kicking for goal and setting up for goals.

Failure to capitalise on first quarter dominance has cost us probably over 4 or maybe 5 games this season, which is THE difference between top 2 or 4, and missing out yet again.

Frankly if we do miss and the "leaders" come out and say how cut up they are, I will spew.

All talk, no action.

This team has a nucleus of players to take us to a flag in the near future, but this finals thing is seeming to be such an enormous barrier. Can’t win won until we get there

That's a twist ending. How about: we'll go down to WCE, other results will make it impossible for us to make the finals, then we'll beat GWS by 15 goals.

That's not possible.

None of the 11-win teams have a better percentage than us and won't haul it down in just one game.

So even if we lose next week we will go into Round 23 in the 8, just like last year, in the knowledge that a win against GWS will secure our finals spot.

Well Im not angry just frustrated. We stuffed it up in the 1st quarter with all those behinds. We missed simple simple we just bombed the ball into our forward line without lowering the eyes. I was listening to the game while watching at the G and Paul Roos was getting so frustrated. the way we just bombed it in.

Jones Im giving a bit of an out to. For years this bloke has carried us. He was well held today and he isn't our main man in the midfield anymore and nor should he be. Its time for the younger ones to step up which Oliver and Harmes are doing. Just need the others to follow.

Petracca frustrates me. When has he had a great breakout game? Queens bday last year I can think of, but what has he done since then? Brayshaw has gone past him.

We just did silly things at the wrong times. Spargo had to shots at goal and didn't make the distance., Oliver thought he was buddy and tried to run around his opponent and got tackled costing us a shot on goal and Hogan seems to have gone back to his old runup and yes he did get injured.

Its more annoying that they were 2 down before 1/2 times. We should have run over the top of them. But they used the ball smartly.

I noticed on the news tonight Allen Jakovich was in the rooms, maybe he could have a talk to Jesse if Jesse is willing to listen.

Anyway we have 2 more chances. I just have this awful feeling its going to comes down to beating GWS.

Or we will be the laughing stock again like last year.

Not the first time we've suffered a loss from wasteful goalkicking this year. Delivery inside 50 and set shots are an ongoing issue for us.

Hogan is obviously playing with an injury. Over the past 2 weeks he has had numerous times where he has been labouring to run. And he seemed to be playing deeper in the forward line this week, which is where I would prefer him to play, and I'm not complaining about that. But just wondering what the problem maybe. Any thoughts????

Hogan has been running like a cowboy wearing spurs, for years now.    He can't launch off the ground, never could.

He won't have a long career IMO.   His joints will be stuffed before he's old.

He cannot, and never has been able to play "tall"...  but has always been more your mobile, run-about CHF, with endurance.  Playing Deep, is Not his go.

TMc is a better mover, around the field.

A bigger problem, is our lack of clever midfielders.   But we need something to trade, to get something.

We've been good enough in the midfield, to get to outside the 8...  but progressing further is a much bigger ask.

We lack smart quick players.   Who trust in themselves.

We get bottled up so easily,,,, its like putting the babies dummy back in...  that stops it all.

This club does my head in. More inside 50s, more scoring shots, total dominance across the ground, 5th loss under 10 points in the same season.

Our gameplan is a joke. Our defensive coach needs to [censored] right off and never coach another AFL club (except Carlton or Essendon, purely for the LOLz)

Other clubs must laugh at how easy it is to beat us, with our obsession of running around in circles, racking up cheap possessions which achieve nothing, and all the hilarious blind kicks into the forward line to no advantage.

Was Roos at the ground with you? Can't even imagine how frustrated he must be watching this team. A competent coach would've had this team locked into 2nd place on the ladder and already planning for finals.

The defensive structures he spent 3 years implementing have been tossed in the bin because Goodwin clearly knows better, despite veering off the cliff at full speed towards his second successive year of failure.

No he was doing special comments on mmm. He just couldn't believe how we were just blazing away into our forward line and  not lowering the eyes.

Sydney scored 13.9.87. Their season average is 12.9. So they were right around their average, both as to number of scoring shots and total score.

We scored 10.18.78. Our season average is 15.13. So we were right around our average scoring shots, but nowhere near our average score.

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that this inaccuracy is, largely, where the game was lost.

The other thing is we held the swans to only 3 behinds in that final term. But we were to far back .

I think Hogan is on talking footy tomorrow night, so that will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

I mean we have all heard how r23 stung them last year  but I haven't seem them do much about it. It would be nice at this stage of the season to have consolidated our spot in the 8.

TMc sprayed some uncharacteristically in last weeks game, as well.

Made me start to think, "is he on pain killers",  after last week ?

Same again this week,  but he did look a bit uncertain.

Of course, this we know, but we don’t have the mentality to fix it. Look at our goal/behind ratio for our big games this year. Repeated misses from 20-30 metres with little angle is a product of a fragile competitive psyche. We are THE chokers of the AFL, pure and simple. We CAN’T kick straight because we don’t have what it takes.

Capitulated to a club that was programmed to work us over. We need to learn how to deliver rather than fall to this crud.

Interestingly, when it all started to go pear-shaped (again), I was looking at which players showed composure, resilience or ffs something!

1 - Hogan. Nope didn't see much. Probably carrying an injury or two but FFS, you had your chances.

2 - Jones. Just horrible. Tried to stand up in the last to undo three quarters of delivering straight to the Swans. I'm hoping he's carrying an injury (not literally) , otherwise there's no explanation other than just being past it.

3 - Salem - showed plenty of composure in my book, not to mention skill

4 - Harmes - Stood up big time BOG

5 - Petracca - Hit and miss on the composure front all year, but his latent gun status is enough for me

6 - Lewis - Plenty of composure when he had the ball. When he didn't, he went to ground like he was shot

9 - Spargo - Back yourself mate. You have the skills and composure. Don't be hand-balling off when it counts. Will be a gun but maybe running out of puff

10 - Brayshaw - Had the odd turnover, but competed hard all day and is a gun

11 - Gawn -  A little off today but managed to still tap to advantage. Unfortunately, the swans read this too and very well.

12 - Tyson - showed plenty of composure and was able to spot up targets away from the contest (when not plodding)

13 - Oliver - I thought he struggled a bit today (tag) but willed himself to produce in the last quarter. Was able to turn it around

17 - Frost - Gave his all and competed well against a legend

21 - Pedo - Asking a lot to expect him to save the day. Better composure later in the game.

22 - VDB - Showed composure later in the game, when it counted. Not sure pitching him against Alir was ever going to be fruitful and it showed.

24 - JKH - Not the worst. I thought there was more composure as the game went on. Showed a few nice tricks and a good work ethic apart from some costly mistakes.

25 - T-Mac - Stood up as the game went on. Not much composure when the ball hit the ground, but if he can mark and kick goals when it counts, who gives a flying

28 - O- Mac - Not expecting it, but with Frosty shouldering all the responsibility with Franklin, he seemed to show plenty of composure and has been hitting targets all year.

29 - Hunt - Not sure why selected. Missed most of the year with injury and rubbish form. Has plenty of dash but did, in no way justify selection.

30 - ANB - Been in red hot form the last few weeks but was just horrible today. I'm sure he covered a shitload of ground, but if all your efforts (except maybe 1) end in turnovers, then what's the effing point............. just sooo frustrating

31 - Fritsch - Composure personified

36 - Garlett - Has composure in spades but has devoted this year to NOT tackling. Come on Jeffy!

39 - Jetta - Jet. Indisputable

No it is more simple than that we simply don't have enough players with good disposal skills. And some of them never will. Right now we are a ninth placed talent still some recruiting to do before we are seriously good team.

The whole game was just so disheartening. Story of our season really. It's going to come down to GWS and we will crumble under the weight of supporter/media expectation and finish 9th. Different team, same old dees ladies and gents... today was the day we needed to stand up. Oh and I really feel for Alex Johnson.
