Hi all. Not sure if a new thread is warranted, passing by Goschs and stopped for a visit.

Melksham, Hibbo and Viney the only ones out there so far. Melksham and Hibbo running laps and then onto some warmup exercises.

Viney waking laps with the occasional jog in between.

Sounds like Max will play but I’ll be on Max watch if I stick around long enough.

The team is out there now. A bit of panic set in when I couldn’t see Hogan and saw number 26 running around. Hogan is wearing 26. Max participating fully although it seems a very light session at the moment.

Hannan is training and I can’t spot AVB.

Very light session that lasted about 30 minutes.

Some light kicking drills to begin with and Max was involved kicking both feet.

A couple of goal kicking drills followed and Max didn’t participate fully. Went for some straight runs under they eye of one of the coaches. Went up for a few jumps centre bounce style also. Didn’t seem hampered although he left a tad earlier than everyone else.

Definately no AVB out there.

Hibbo and Melksham still out there putting in the hard yards with running.

Spargo has no pace??  What games are you watching

I've spent time at under 18 level with Spargo. Picket is right in a way. Hes definitely not the quickest out there. With his lack of pace he makes ip for it with his incredible work rate and gut running.

Caleb Daniel is not quick either, but like Spargo their workrates are never questioned.

And he runs to all the right spots too.  Beautiful reader of the play...   as he showed with his very first goal in his debut game.

The Sparg plug.

Spargo may not be overly speedy or athletic but he is a proper footballer who gets the game. If they could measure such things I bet they would find he is about the quickest decision maker at the club. 200 game and premiership player

He's a beautiful reader of the game. And as you say he just runs to the right spots.

I wouldnt also pencil him in as a forward pocket solely. He was an absolute gun midfielder in his junior days and i expect in a few years he'll run through the midfield at some stage. Especially Goodwins mantra of having versatility in todays game.

Wow that's some narrative...

It’s a bit of an exaggeration, but offensively and defensively last year Hunts speed was a weapon. This year he didn’t find the balance, often caught out of position especially defensively early in the year.

Vince is slow, but by reading the play well for the most part he was able to influence more contests whilst both were playing.

Hunt is clearly the quicker player, but putting yourself out of position kind of negates that, no?

Buongiorno, with mention of Caligula your top end correspondents cannot resist. At present holidaying in Italia and on the march south to Roma. Wi-Fi here is decidedly sketchy so when there is on opportunity we will take it. From reports the attrition rate continues as the season goes, with a few more casualties on the wayside. Shame about Smithy mi dispiace, after showing some definite promise. From the brief viewing of the match highlights the tackle causing his injury appeared overly et tu Brutus and worthy of the Colosseum and Bernie's on the backburner with Casey again... Mi  scusi  must remain relevant and on topic.  Charlie Spargo excites your roving correspondents as a worthy addition to the Demons legion who 'jack in the box'  (apologies to our co-captain)  like appears front and square for that opportunist goal. Doesn't shirk the physical stuff either in the heat of gladiatorial combat. From where we're sitting, like Caligula  thumbs up the mighty Demons, thumbs down to Equinus and his cohort this Sunday. Arrivederci.

postscript If we run into Jake we will say ciao!!!

Let me guess....Shiraz?    Scusi...have a great trip.

Seems to me like Smith/Vince get replaced with Pedersen/Hunt, in a like-for-like swap.

I'm not sold on Pedersen but I wasn't sold on Smith either so I feel like we're not going backwards in that area, if anything we're just not going forwards.

Hunt at his best is a major improvement on Vince, the query is whether we see Hunt's best or we see the Hunt we got earlier this year who wasn't playing near AFL level.

Sydney didn't include Rohan which is interesting.

Not really. Rohan's been rubbish all year.

Hunt has the chance to cement a place in the side late in the season if he can play good footy. Here's hoping he does. With Hibberd, Frost and Hunt in the backline there is plenty of speed to offset the lack of pace in Oscar, Jordie and Nev. Salem is also not overly quick but is ok. That is one of the things that has hurt our game on the G this year, a lack of pace.

Are we too tall if it’s wet?

Not predicted to be much rain tomorrow, then again, the bom ain't exactly a reliable weather source.

I will be interested to see how Pedersen is used by Goodwin in his match as he does bring a lot of flexibility to the team. I could see three uses for him. If the defence needs bolstering he can slot in there to be a cut out for Frost on Franklin. He can also relieve in the ruck to make sure that Tmac is still in the forward line at all times. I could see that if Franklin is cutting loose I hen he could rotate into the forward line and free up Tmac to have a crack at Buddy.

will be interesting to watch.

Disappointed about Smith as (up until he got injured) that was his best game all year. He was applying plenty of pressure and Goodwin’s perseverance was playing off!

In no way are him and Pedo like-for-like swaps!

No idea where Pedders fits in to be honest.

Unless they think he can play the Joel Smith/Lever role.

The match committee need to explain this one to the members. Shocking decision.

Theres was zero logic in bringing him in as a defender. This is on the selectors. Nothing against Pedersen.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
