just on bringing the ball into the 50 (at times it feels like at all costs) - aside from Lewis's two goals and Melksham's one - I have a vibe that we would be one of the teams with the lowest amount of goals from beyond 50 this year - anyone know of a good stat's site where I could draw this info from?

As a  group of supporters we have also noted that......we pass the ball round so quickly & have so many scoring options that we seem very rarely to kick goals from outside 50.......it doesn’t always work but it is a reason why our forward line when “on song” is hard to play against

The Crows appear to be front runners, like we were once upon a time this century.  They open up like a kebab in foil.

Lets not get too carried away with those entries last week after halftime.

We have to have composure and vision; wide vision, to see all opportunities.  and the players to placer the ball where we need it.

I worry about Jeffy, he's a bit of front runner as well...  likes to have the ball out on his own.

We'll miss Spargo, if he rests.  He is a distributor.  But he needs a spell, to come back sharp.

How good is it having AVB back!? Dude is a gun and has gone through a helluva lot the past couple of years, from some nasty injuries to the devastating loss of his Father (I can't tell you the whole story of what exactly happened but it's pretty messed up)

To see him come back and play some great VFL footy, I am overjoyed to see him back in the seniors. He's gonna tear it up!

Spending a lot more time upfield around the wing in recent weeks, even spending 25% of his time v Geel in the defensive half. I wonder if this is a ploy by Goodwin to get him up the ground to get him in the game? I'd prefer to see him crumbing and snagging goals with added and perceived in the F50. Just the 6 goals from 4 games on his return.

Garlett puts so much pressure on opposing backs. What an example of controlled fumbling last week. He never really lost control and eventually found a teamate for a goal assist.

Must be in the eye of the beholder as I actually thought that was his best  game since he came back......no way at the top of his game but a distinct improvement ?

I agree with you, but like you I think he's still been a long way off his best so it's not saying a lot - particular when it comes to defensive pressure. Certainly showed some touch and goal sense that no other small-mid in our side has, though. A really special player when on song, I think we need him up and about.

He's not a tackler or body player but he definitely has inferred pressure and is good at chase down plays. Agree that he hasn't hit top form yet but can be a weapon.

3 direct and influential assists last week, beside his own goals.  Plus plenty of movement to be a target and pressure.  I dont underrate that performance, and if he builds more from here, will be brilliant add to the forward structure that has been missing him for the middle part of the season.

When he came on in his first vfl game hw was frightening in his attack on the ball and tackling.

Have to feel sorry for the sun's defenders who probaly all have staying injury free for their trip to bali om their minds.

Good selection from this perspective as vb will role model rge required intensity.

Caleb Daniel and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti are shorter than Spargo.

Dayne Zorko, Paul Puopolo, Dion Prestia, Willie Rioli, Lewis Taylor, Eddie Betts, Hayden Ballantyne and Jack Lonie, amongst others, are all the same height as him.

Allen Christensen, Orazio Fantasia, Jade Gresham, Billy Hartung, Jack Higgins, Rory Laird, Lachie Neale, Tom Papley, Cyril Rioli, Michael Walters and Devon Smith, amongst others, are all just one inch taller than him.

Your argument that he is "too short" is completely unfounded.

How tall are you Mr tight botty?

Spargo guaranteed 100+ games player.  Probable 200 game Premiership player.

i think we really need to get Hunt in this game in place of Smith, try get him some confidence... how much more potent would we be if we make september and Hunt has returned to his linebreaking ways??... we need to take a risk if we want to compete deep into September

It is likely to rain a little - perhaps quite a good deal if Adelaide weather forecasts for today and Saturday are any guide - and for Sunday, too - so a shorter running team may have been a good selection,

Yes, last week Jeffy was very good with the taps and assists as well as scoring himself. With less familiar opposing backs around him, he will possibly lead them on a merry dance so our other fwds need to be attentive, ready and contributing either for his tap-on magic or his pressure moves, or his short passing, or when lining up a 6-pointer, clearing an avenue for that magic foot.

The first time he smashes (legally) a Gold Coast player is going to be very exciting!  In fact, I think it is a drinking game:  Every time he slams someone = Skoll!

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
