One of the problems with this game is that it is an elimination final for Adelaide. We were robbed there against Port so lets hope the umps don't favour them too much.

So do we put Frost on Walker or do we give Oscar a shot first? also you have there other talls Jenkins and Lynch as well to stop. Maxy also needs a big game against Jacobs.

Frost on Walker to start as he works further up the ground which works if Frost wins the ball as a better rebounding back.

Oscar to Jenkins who usually plays as the deepest forward.

I would say they'll rotate players against Lynch. Look for Bernie and Smith to both spend time on him.

Is anyone else concerned about our for & against scoreline being impacted by incorrect umpiring decisions. It seems to be a continuing trend in our close games. Just hope we're due a bit more luck in the coming weeks. Won't hold my breath though.

Probably need to see Gil's Final 8 list to know the answer to that. If we are in it, then maybe the luck is about to come our way, if not, the reaming continues.

Sooner rather than later it's all going to all come crushing down on Adelaide if they're playing elimination finals every week to the rest of the year.

Same as Essendon.

Hopefully this time around the umpires can accurately measure a 50 metre penalty.

Still having nightmares about the 70 metre penalty and goal that was awarded to Westhoff in the last qtr of round 14.

Or the free kick against Melksham in the 2nd quarter for what I will never know. The free or mark to whingegard in the second and the one that wasn't paid to Brayshaw. Oh and don't forget about melksham having his pulled off in front of goals in the last quarter which of course wasn't paid.

As I said in a different thread, the last time we played Adelaide, Vince played on Lynch, and gave him a bath.  I can't see why we wouldn't do that again.

If Harmes plays, he has to go to Sloane.

I'm quite confident about this game.  I was concerned how our young midfield would compete against a strong, mature midfield last week, and they bloody near dragged us over the line.  I don't think Adelaide's midfield bats as deep as Geelong's, so I'm confident we can at least draw level in this area, which will go a long way to us winning.

I think across the park, we match up very well, and feel that we are ready to win a game like this.

Frost has got to take Walker from the start and play off the slow dunderhead for rebounding - but eyes up rebounding to assist his delivery to a teammate. I would not play OMac this week unless he is prepared to drop back continuously to protect the last line - I'd put Pedo in at FBack and have the Weed in one Bpocket and Jetta in the other. HBFlank would be the OMac spot with Jones rebounding on the other HBFlank. OMac can be benched if we need more run - Kent comes in off the bench.

So that's;

In; Pedo, Kent, Weed

Who's out?

Agree. And not just in terms of personnel. Our game plan works well against them because in many ways it is similar. Their press is not has high or aggressive but, like us they do press up,  don't really flood their back line (which we struggle to overcome) and like to run hard forward and attack.

Our recent record against them reflects the fact we match up well with them. I think we will win this game. In fact i'm tipping 40 plus.

Lewis, JKH, Harmes, most likely.

Lewis?  Dropped on game 299?  Ruthless (or stupid, I'll let you decide).

Just looked at the Changes for This Week thread, you also had T Smith, Wagner and AVB in the team.  So there's another 3 you need to drop to be replaced by them.

6 changes.  Wow.

Just re-assessed some possibles since that post 24 hrs ago. 'Ruthless' is necessary in a competitive world. It is not necessarily heartless but revision is usually good and if not, it is informing; whereas 'stupid' does not quite fit the bill, but thanks for that, anyway. Sometimes I'd reckon that posters such as yourself are indicative of a need for singlemindedness to get out more in order to be a little less self-transfixed and personally critical, and to see how the others about us might think from time to time. However, enjoy the game.

We are crying out for leaders, and with our balls on the line for the next 5 games, you are wanting to drop our most experienced (both in games and finals experience)?

It was interesting to hear him talk about the moment late in the game where he gave Menzel that space.  Lewis was watching the play unfold, and immediately thought that if it was him (Lewis) coming out of the backline, the first place he would've kicked it would've been down the guts.  That's where he placed himself.  He also thought that allowing Menzel to lead to the boundary was a high % play from him (Lewis), as it would chew time off the clock, as well as making the kick out of the backline needing to be spot on.

History would show that he made the wrong decision.  But I would guarantee that ANB, Brayshaw, Petracca, et al wouldn't have that brain.

(It's worth watching the replay of "that" play - where did Hawkins take that contested mark and handball to Duncan?  EXACTLY where Lewis was standing when the ball was coming out of the backline prior to the Menzel mark).

Is our side announced tonight for a Saturday night game, or do we carry over like Sunday games? I am not sure how these things work. In any event, I hope it is soon as I can't handle reading idiotic suggestions like the one about dropping Lewis anymore.

If i see Nichols amongst the umpires it's game over and we can almost kiss our Finals chances goodbye

Lewis won't be dropped. Two reasons. His form has been best 22 and there is no one at VFL level pushing for his spot.

That’s all well and good @Leoncelli_36 - but the coaches need to know that performances like Lewis won’t be tolerated, he’s been too old and too slow since he came on board - and those two factors alone prove he is not leadership material - nor the fact that his 299 games of experiences went to cut out the biggest likelihood of going down the corridor - hopefully the coaches punish him and end his career on 299 ?

i bet you are a Dom Tyson apologist though?

Lewis was a midfielder who has been asked to play back and people wonder why he sometimes makes errors. He is still learning the craft of playing in that spot.

Given it's a Saturday game the finalised 22 will be announced tonight.

Oh sorry thought my sarcasm was writ large - he does a great job and funnily enough is human - yep - makes errors.. which is easy to pull apart in retrospect . Clearly I need to choose better sardonic emoticons

sorry .. after last week I haven't really been into this game. For some reason I assumed it was Sunday

I think Harmes (inj.) and JKH (useless) will come out for this game.

Hope Harmes stays in but if he is going to be limited in any capacity don't play him.

Bring in Pedo ... and possibly someone else, anyone... aside from JKH!

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road for their 3rd interstate game in 4 weeks as they face a fit and firing Crows at Adelaide Oval. With finals now out of our grasps what are you hoping from the Dees today?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
