I can forgive skill errors but when you are on their gun fwd with 30 seconds left it defies believe that frost leave him. 

Droppable offence imo even though he beat Hawkins a couple of times. If frost stayed on him and spoiled the ball we most likely win

To be honest I'm less concerned with the last minute and more annoyed at minutes 15-10 left in the last when they piled on 4 goals. I'd like to see that dissected instead as we had the chance to halt momentum several times.es yet failed until Petracca won a clearance - by that stage the margin was back to a kick.

If that was the case then they must have felt we had a better chance as a team (at that crucial point) with only 17 men on the field for about 20 seconds AF.  As good Ol' Max's enemy's were oft heard to say... "I find that hard to believe Smart".

In the end it comes down to the fact that this club probably has the worst history in the VFL/AFL at icing close games which we lose far too often.  The fact we haven't been able to turn this around in decades is a blight on the club as a whole and no less on the current FD.  We just continue to find new ways of ducking up all the prior hard work over 3.95 quarters.  We had 4 to 5 players around that last contest in our forward 50 yet not one was able to gather or trap the ground ball at any stage in the 5 or so seconds it was bobbing around and retain the ball for another ball up.   Yet with one clean pick up and handball the Cats whisked it away from congestion in a flash and had it up the other end, hitting a target lace out FTW.

The option was clearly in front of him for a few seconds logos.  Whether he saw it or not who knows. Looks easy from an armchair.  However, over the decades I've tended to find MFC player brains, in general, go to mush in the last frantic minutes of a tight game. Very few hold up under heat, whereas the majority of players from most other teams seem to know what's needed to ice a game and retain possession (barring the bottom 6 or so).

It was interesting listening to Lewis on 360 last night. They showed the behind the goals footage to him of the last 25 seconds and asked him why he was sitting off Menzel. 

Lewis said a team would usually go through the corridor with little time remaining in order to get the ball forward as quickly as possible. His thought was he needed to guard the corridor.

When the boys went through the review on Monday he realised he should have gone to Menzel towards the boundary but also said if you want to give up a kick it would be best to do it wide. 

It sounded like he took some heat from Goody during the review. That’s the way I read it anyway.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation really. If he goes to Menzel and they find someone free in the corridor, then you would be asking why he didn't guard that space instead. 

Bottom line for me is that we should have never let the ball out of our forward line in that last minute, and some poor decisions in that last minute allowed it to happen.

The bottom line for me is that we should have never given up a 5 goal lead.

I can't remember it now and seeing it's Wednesday it's my move on day, but should Brayshaw have been paid in the back from Ablett?

Yes but umpires very very rarely pay those frees at such a critical stage.

That's a good point Roost, during the game they're happy to pay them and then you're right. Not that we can blame that decision, should never have got to that but just couldn't remember. Let's tear the hearts out of Adelaide now.

Just presume that we did make the finals and yes, Geelong were the team we played against in the first round as you suggest.(I mean, it is a possible scenario, even now.)

Could we also presume with any legitimacy that the umpires might suddenly improve in their balance of decisions between MFC and GFC? Would the umpires do so more fairly, consistently and not so blatantly affect the outcome of the game - or prevent a Geelong loss through their inteference? Whaddya reckon?

The umpiring did not cost us that game

It would almost seem as if the decisions that they dish out during the game are not actually legitimate but work to even the score by keeping a team like Geelong in contact...and that the umpires do not pay these decisions as frequently in the critical last quarters because the intended result would be in jeopardy.

I think they try and even up all games, it's a real thing, AFL doesn't want blow outs.

Even with the bad umpiring we should have never lost that game after being up by 29 in the last.

My attitude is ignore bad ump decisions and just keep doing what we did to get in front by 29 points. 

Btw Gus just signed a 4 yr extension.

Holistically, they sure did! Saw it appearing in the first, second and third quarters where we built a lead in the game by an impressive margin - with an allegedly 'lesser side' than Geelong. With a 'lesser' game plan. The final quarter decisions almost en masse were the icing on the intended cake.
