For those concerned by his record at CFC ... was he ever really allowed to run his own race there? Eddie is president, CEO, footy manager, list manager, marketing manager and even second-guesses how the boots are studded.

I'm inclined to think Pert did well there in spite of the handicap placed on him.

One thing: he knows what a big powerful club looks like and how it behaves.

Great pick up and another Roy Boy.

CEO at the biggest sporting club in the land for 10 years is a fair resume.

To me, always came across as putting the club first in an almost arrogant way to the betterment of the Pies.

And now he’s ours. And I want this club to be arrogant and ruthless.

If it's got AFL backing, if [censored] hits the fan, at least we know they'd help us out.

No we aren't a 'big club' nor will we ever be, but with a membership nearing 44,000 and heaps of development left in us, becoming a bigger club financially has to be a non-negotiable. Pert has shown in previous roles he is up to the challenge and isn't daunted by taking on a 'big task'.

Has my approval until he [censored] up. Which hopefully won't occur.

The throw away line in the news articles is that this has the approval of the AFL. Last week on radio one pundit stated that PJ favoured a succession plan as did some at MFC but the AFL did not like this idea, for whatever reason.

Maybe they thought Mahoney was a risk or lacked experience. Pert's credentials are impeccable and far more advanced than any of the internal candidates. In some ways the AFL still owns MFC and dictates our fixture, where we play and who we appoint to senior positions. There is still a little way to go before we start dictating who we play and when and where.

This has AFL all over it

From memory PJ’s time at Essendon didn’t end well either and that turned out ok for us.

We'll be fine?

Given that it was The Australian that broke the story and everyone else was left playing catch-up, it's not a stretch to think that some media pundits will have to make some bs outlandish claims to come out of it looking ok (as opposed to sitting on their arses without a [censored] clue).

Gotta love the media outlets that couldn't be bothered using any of the multitude of cleanskin images of Pert a 5 second internet search provides but rather decided that Collingwood sponsers deserved more exposure.

Doesn’t surprise me to hear CFC was toxic when he left. As others have said the Balme/Gubby Allen Buckley situation had Eddie all over it. Doubt Perry had much control  over that complete balls up.

MFC’s 2 biggest challenges over next ten years are

1 building sustainable membership. No one better in the industry than Perty. Knows everything about it having successfully doubled the membership at the biggest Club.

2.  Building the permanent training and Admin facilities. Again no one better or more experienced in the industry.  This is tied in to making the best commercial decisions in how to utilise the pot of gold from Leighoak and Bentleigh Club.

No doubt PJ had put work into Mahoney as a succession plan. And de Crepney is one of the best in the business. PJ may have done a great job with them but that doesn’t mean you should ignore a much better candidate. How could you take a football manager with no commercial experience other than a Uni degree over someone with Perty’s experience. PJ succession plan or not.

It sounds like PJ and the Board have already made the decision on the site for the new facilities. Perty has the perfect experience to execute. I just hope they have got it right. Won’t be his fault if they don’t.

I'm ignorant of the situation.  Like most, or everyone here.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

That said, I will say that I'm not perturbed by hearsay.  Those in judgment will have heard the rumours in this thread and are seemingly not concerned by them.  We have very smart people at the helm.

If you're an every day punter and reckon you have better "mail' than the club then you're delusional.  Everyone knows everyone's business inside of footy.  Don't pretend you know a secret the club doesn't.

So Pert was an AFL appointment.  This has to be a huge success or they will look like fools.

Taking that into account,  in combination with  the talent of our list and our great coaching staff .... I am penciling us in for at least 6 flags in the next 10 years.

Let the good times roll!

I had hoped I wouldn't see the MFC have anything to do with CFC or its off spring. It hasn't been a happy hunting ground lately.

IN:   Dawes Neeld Lumumba

Out: Dunn Howe

Lets hope the mould is about to be broken. Although after a year out arguably it isn't direct contact.

You're so right. Worth the rest put together.

Our collective lives would have been so different if we had him in '07 onwards.

I have absolutely no idea as to the good , bad or otherwise as to this. I had none either regarding Jackson. Id be inclined to think very few do...but some will.

Personally im glad we're still looking outside the club at this stage. There's no denying Pert's pedigree and it was probably better than anyone currently with our club. Thats not to say we haven't anyone with good ability...but GP probably has more and the experience in those positions to go with it.

We'll have no idea for some whiles.

Do well Mr Pert, welcome to your new home. Continue to make it better.

I wonder if there will be any fallout ?

Go Dees
