None of us like the idea of selling games but the way the club embraced the Heart of the Country concept yesterday made me proud.

Translating the song, wearing the indigenous guernsey a week early, the exchange of tributes before the game were symbolically powerful.

True, the locals seemed to favour the Crows though not entirely. And the sponsor would have been rapt with Daisy's 20 minute travelogue with BT on Seven.

Then there are the health initiatives the club has started like the program against glaucoma which began a few years back (when Jim was still with us, I think).

The result aside I think we might have to continue with this game, make it a real statement.

Definitely more Crows fans, but not surprising considering Adelaide is just down the road from here.

Great post, put up similar sentiments in other threads, while we play Port and Crows here, they will have more supporters but if we are still playing here in 10 years, there will be a truckload more Demons supporters, as the kids in this area will start following the Demons in numbers that were unheard of before we came here. We do a lot of great work up here, long may it continue and over time we will transform the heart of the country, to Demon country!

Was surprised to hear that the ground capacity is as low as 7,000.

Not sure it's a long term proposition at such a small ground.

Apparently the capacity has to be 12,000 until it was recently lowered to a maximum of 7,000.

The Redtails don’t get to play together often, they are a combined team made up from the best young players from Alice and the surrounding communities

It’s trachoma they’re trying to eradicate, and Demon supporter, Prof Hugh Taylor, is at the forefront of Melbourne’s input, using indigenous AFL Demons to advise the people from surrounding areas.

BTW why wasn't the Alice game played during the indigenous round?

Seems that culturally speaking it is as important if not more important than the Richmond v Essendon night game.

Thought the paid advertorial by Daisy and BT was very amateurish. I'm sure it could have been done a lot better by others. Loved the cameos by Gilbert McAdam and the starring role of the "tree".

Definitely looking at coming up next year but obviously I will have to make sure I buy my tickets in advance.

PS: Now understand that it is the Pastor Doug Nichols week and we kicked it off.

Yes. Trachoma is a disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Largely preventable by clean hands and a clean environment, which is the message of the Melbourne program.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
