Modern tv has lost its soul, just as we have lost our many:  Aretha, Ray Charles, Robbie Flower, Steve Irwin, Peter Brock,  Muhammad Ali etc....   all people of true passion and Driven Via their hearts, for the purposes they love.

Not by money_

I believe the plight of the planet will one day unite us all with a passion never witnessed when our own lives and future existence are under real threat.

It is now, but we haven't realised it, just yet.

We are too busy trying to beat all others,,, to notice the killer hiding behind our right shoulders.

I've rated Whately for many years but recently I've found him to be losing his sense of discretion and seems to be adopting the sensationalist path the other media meatheads have taken.

No doubt the SEN gig has not helped.

A shame because I used to really enjoy his calls on the ABC.

He picks up on discrepancies, or things that seem a bit out of kilter ... like a good journo would ... but then he doesn't seem to be able to think through whether it's a big deal or not..

EG when the draw for the finals was announced, he picked up on the fact that there have been interstate finals in Perth and Adelaide on a Thursday before ... but not this year. WCE v CFC not on a Thursday!

Gerry's conclusion: something is afoot! Why not this year? Scoop! You can almost hear him mentally rehearsing his Pulitzer prize acceptance speech. So he got on the AFL guy to put him through the mincer ... only to find it was for the very prosaic reason that public transport on Thursday nights in Perth is dreadful.

He does it again and again. Thinks he's uncovered Watergate only to find it's more like water glass. Meanwhile actual big deals get glossed over by him. Old joke: Twately has no nose for news. How does he smell? Terrible!

Quite liked Whately as a match caller on the ABC.  Use to like him on 360, but must admit, he has been grating of late (I really only watch 360 for Jordan Lewis on Tuesday's these days).

Give Whately his due credit though - he's been saying for weeks now that he'd love to see what Jack Viney could do in a final and thankfully he was right on the money with that one.

Gerard's a 'grating' head, for radio, as they say.

This.

Something's missing now that he's changed jobs. The cynic in me suspects it's to do with his new employers pulling strings. It also probably doesn't help that now he can sense he's the go-to-guy for footy media now. When he sets an agenda he sees it play out over the media landscape in a way other footy writers only dream of. Maybe it's gone to his head? I know when he was climbing the relevance ladder he was much more impressive and reasonable minded, especially when it came to sifting through complicated issues that made people too passionate to see a solution. Now that he's on the top of the tree though, there's been a shift.

I reckon if he drops a few of his gigs things might improve. That many sports and that much air time... it's gotta dilute your product.

It was actually Robbo who continually said he’d  like to see Viney in finals. Gerard had jumped off us after the Sydney game until David King the Le him repeatedly to believe in the numbers. Gerry is like an old women who can’t think straight, chops and changes his opinion quickly and most annoyingly, finds tiny unimportant discrepancies in things but can’t work out why then overblows big things like Steve Smith, Ess saga that he made a goose of himself and more recently the State of The Game agenda he started plus the Gaff incident.

I was super critical on Robbo’s words around the cheating saga at essendon, but think he has really improved recently.

I have always rated Whately but he is human and finds it hard to hide his geelong bias but goes ok .

Everyday scenes from the Whateley household:

Gerry. Did you pay the power bills??? We just got a disconnection notice!
Hmmm ... this could be an indication that we'll be without electricity. An uncertain future for the warmth and comfort of the Whateley premises. We'll keeping checking in and see how that pans out.

Gerry, the school called today and said Delilah steals lunch money from the other kids.
Hmmmmm ... the counterpoint to this is that the other kids are probably stealing Delilah's lunch money. One might press the notion that it all evens out .... in the long run.

Dad, Marius keeps hitting me!
Hmmmm ... scenes of disharmony in the Whateley household! Let's watch in the coming days and weeks to see what unfolds.

Gerry. You big hunk of a man. Get the champagne while I slip into something more comfortable.
Hmmmm ... interesting. Let's get some talkback from the kids about this proposal.

Gerry, I'm leaving you.
Hmmmm ... shocking news for the Whateley marriage. A bombshell revelation today.
I'm serious. I want a trial separation.
One's response can only be: We'll be right back after this break.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
