I'm happy to take the advice from others on here that have spoken to Gaff's management that it is North or WCE.

In the meantime - I can't help but think though, that his choice when he makes his announcement will be based on Hogan getting to Fremantle or not...

Well, the first language of AFL is lying... or not airing your intentions...since when has Mahoney ever been overt when it's come to bigger names coming into the club.

Not to say he is lying of course... but as someone else said...the deals are done, the rest is theatre.

So, the vibe I have is that I can't help but think that if/when Hogan goes to Freo...Gaff will shortly announce the Dee's, as his asking price is more closely matched due to more cap $ -  if the trade to Freo fails... well, who cares really...

Is that a compliment or not? ?

On what planet would Gaff base his decision to go to North or stay at WCE based on whether Hogan goes to Freo?

You miss the point. The two are totally unrelated.

I’m sure I read elsewhere on here that, with Hogan going it’s frees up $ for anyone - in this case Gaff who is a FA to meet an asking price.

if this is wrong - walk me through what point I am missing

TIA

Well not quite... His comments were:

"We don't stop asking the question, but we've been told to stay away for a fair period of time. We're reading what you guys are reading on that."

Being told to stay away for a period of time can be construed two ways.

  1. MFC has been told time and time again to F off but are annoyingly persistent, or;
  2. MFC has been advised to take a step back and let things unfold safe in the knowledge that they're still in the picture.

He answered this in response to Barrett asking if he thought it was down to two, being North and WC. The end of the sentence was that, based on the above,  Melbourne are reading it the same way.

Pretty sure he was confirming that we had been told to bugger off, not let it play out. Would love to be wrong.

"Told to stay away" Interesting turn of phrase. Something feels off about this whole Gaff scenario. I know he's going through a lot, but to be completely shattered as your teammates win a premiership seemed pretty self absorbed. Couldnt put the chin up and put on a smile and be happy for teammates like nic nat? I know im playing the DL cliche of disliking those who turn us down, but Gaff has seemed like a very odd and brittle indecisive person this past week.

Apples and Oranges.

No need to elaborate.

I’d have thought until the Eagles finished finals we (and other suitors) would have been told to “stay away”... now it’s time to mak e our play, as if he’s leaving the West as seems evident, it’s fairly likely he’d consider us a good option, assuming the numbers at North are not too insane...

I’ll do a desk pop if Gaff comes to us. Gaff’s manager has stated it’s between staying at West Coast and going to North. The way Mahoney’s words are being read into is amusing, he’s a straight shooter. I know it’s nice to still hold out hope Gaff may come to us but it isn’t happening.

Fair enough. And ill rightly cop criticism for the harshness of my post

But let me just surmise that maybe Gaff is not the type of person that will thrive with the weight of $1.1m/yr expectations on his shoulders all the while adapting to a new environment. That might be a factor in him being indecisive currently. Time to let this one play out, happy to be wrong.

Gaff's manager said on Trade Radio today it's between West Coast and North. When asked if it was only those clubs, he said "yes.". We've asked, we've been told no, and now his manager says West Coast or North. There's no way we come close to matching Norths offer of 1.2 million a year for 5-6 years. Probably time to shut this thread down. The club has clearly sent their focus elsewhere since, hopefully on Shiel?

Point 2. I actually thought there was a bigger age difference

Two things Gaff would have seriously learnt in the last two weeks:

He's got the monkey on his back from WC/Flag, and all who sail in her, and

He's not going to readily get rid of it at North.....

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
