Thanks for that. Here is the result for those who have not heard, albeit one-sided:

Box Hill    0.1    4.2    4.5    4.8 32

Casey    4.8    8.11    9.14    12.15 87

Had trouble getting s signal today, so had to wait till I got home.

Casey 12 15 87 to Box Hill 4 8 32

Melbourne listed players participating were :-

Frost -  Solid in defence and in the air.  Would love to see him in our best 22, but cannot see whose place he would take. Provides really good run and carry from defence.

Jetta - Solid as usual, as we would expect.  Provides plenty of attacking opportunities and blankets his opposition.

Harmes - Played really well.  Took some great marks and kicked at least one goal.  Provided plenty of run.

Tyson - Played a really good link up role and set up several attacking opportunities.  Ready for round one.

Tim Smith -  Improved as the game went on and was more involved in the game than last week.  Starting to find some form. Still a way off though.

Garlett - Limited opportunities, but will be better for the run.  Even spent some time in the midfield with Jetta.

Kent - Played well, but missed out on kicking multiple goals.  Using his body well in contests and starting to see his speed.

Joel Smith - Did some good things in defence, but didn't see a great deal of him.  Looking forward to him getting some more game time and recapturing the early season form he showed last year.

Weideman - Kicked 2 goals and took some good marks.  Had quite a bit of game time on the ball and I was impressed with his tap work.  Competed well.

Number 68 (for Whispering Jack) was Kieran Byers - a 203 com 20 or 21 years of age.

I saw a team sheet that someone had and had to look him up.  Really impressed me with his ruck work and follow up and uses his body quite well for one so young.  One to watch I would have thought.

None of our young players played today - Spargo, Balic, Petty. King, Filopovic, Keilty (injured ribs), JKH, Baker or Johnstone.

Casey Demons dominated the game today in hot conditions.

Thanks for the report!

The Weideman on the ball is an interesting development.  If he can add that to his game it'll be a huge bonus for him getting a crack at the seniors later in the year.

A good hit out for the boys. I was surprised by the small attendance, saw probably more Box Hill supporters than Melbourne/Casey.

The wind was a big factor today and turned it into a tough and  scrambly contest. Casey proved too good at clearing away from these clinches and never looked like being beaten. They scored a lot of behinds though..

It would have been a hard day at the office for the forwards and none of them really shone. Harmes showed he is now well and truly a class above at this level and Tyson got his share of possessions but, gee, he is a turnover king. I would have loved a dollar for every turnover, would have paid my petrol back to Box Hill.

Jetta and Frost were fantastic down back, Jeffy always thereabouts, Kent was bullocking and won a lot of the ball, Joel Smith was good, King was a good ruckman, though I'd like to see him take a few grabs, and Weidemann did his best work in the ruck.

Tim Smith looks a long way off the pace.

The egg and bacon roll was A1.

Dear Dieter.  Unfortunately Mitch King did  not play today - he was sitting in the stands.

The number 68 ruckman was Kieran Byers 203 cm 21 year old.  Must be on Casey's list.

I was like you and very impressed by him.  One to keep an eye on.

Aha. Thanks for the info. Do you recall we had a Gary Byers played for the Dees in 1961. He killed John Nicholls in the last home and away game. We played Carlton again in the first Semi. This time Nicholls dominated...

I guess it's interesting that you see what you want to see. In the second quarter he kicked straight to a Box Hill player and I guess it brought my latent disappointment at turnovers to a head. Tyson is quite often the guy who gives it away...

He is a ball magnet though. If he could overcome that capacity to waste he'd be a superstar.

Dat's all I'm saying...

When you’re on a good thing....

1961 is a little bit before my time 'dieter'.  My first memories of the football are from 1964 (when I was 9) and watching the GF in standing room.

Corey Wagner is most definitely lining up with Casey this year and has played the last two practice games.  I thought he had been quite impressive - particularly last week.  He has no trouble finding the ball.  I think he has been playing on ball or half back.

I was at cricket practice. I was 14, listening on a transistor, then running in to bowl a thousand miles an hour thunderball. I bowled faster than Ray Gabelich that day.

How is Kenty going? Like his aggression and speed. Tim Smith - above VFL standard or struggling?

Tyson, Jetta and Garlett  glad to see them playing. Rapt in Tyson's game today. He will be looking for a big year.

I hope you’re information is correct but he’s not on the list of ins and outs on the VFL website:

CASEY DEMONS

In: Ben Campbell (Nilma-Darnum) Riley D’Arcy (Dandenong Stingrays) Colin Garland (Melbourne) Jack Hudson (Gippsland Power) Jay Lockhart (North Launceston) Ryan Morrison (Noble Park) Julian Patterson (Gippsland Power) Kyle Stainthorpe (Eastern Ranges) Mitch White (Melbourne) Ali Zijai (Dandenong Stingrays)

Out: Kieren Byers Will Collis Mitch Cox Aloysio Ferreira (Frankston) Bayley Fritsch (Melbourne) Jake Gains Nathan Gardiner (Frankston) Lachlan Gill-Renouf (Frankston) Ben Giobbi Dylan Gordon (Noble Park) Brenton Hillard (Frankston) Perry Lewis-Smith (Frankston) Jake Lovett (Frankston) Todd Vander Haar Yilber Zijai (Frankston)

Kieran Byers who apparently played yesterday is also shown as an out and I’m also surprised that Dylan Gordon has left the club.

Son of Biffo?

I believe that Corey Wagner is playing with Casey, though I had no idea what he looks like.

At last week's practice match I had to ask some non participating Casey players sitting in the stand who was the blonde haired player, with the hair bun - as he seemed to be getting the ball on a regular basis.  They told me it was Wags!

I also believe that Dylan Gordon has also played in the last two practice games.  I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure it was him - having seen him play quite a bit last year.

However Whispering Jack seems to have greater knowledge of Casey Demons happenings than I.

was there in 64 Granny as a ten year old best weekend of my young life

Was telling someone today how good Barry Bourke was on the day

Often misses out because of Cromptons goal

I bought Gary's house three or four years ago and met him to go over a few things. His career was definitely before my time, but he is still very much a proud Demon. He saw a demon sticker on my car and we chatted for an hour or so about the Demons and where they were headed. Things were a lot more gloomy back then. Seemed to be a ripping bloke.

He actually played  in 1962 and the first game of 1963. I thought my memory was out by a year...

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
