PETER JACKSON VFL 2018 - PRACTICE MATCH CASEY DEMONS  v BOX HILL HAWKS
Casey Fields
Saturday 17th  March, 2018 at 12.00pm

I’m a long way from the City of Casey and it’s hard to find out any news from home but it looks as though there are going to be a few Demons taking the field in today’s VFL practice match at Casey Fields (clubs need to get special permission to enable those who have had interrupted pre seasons to play this weekend).

Star Dees to make R1 bid in VFL hit-out

“A HOST of Melbourne players will be looking to confirm their selection in round one when they run out for VFL affiliate Casey Demons in a practice match against Box Hill at Casey Fields on Saturday.
The Demons have decided to take the opportunity to get valuable game time into Jeff Garlett, Neville Jetta, Dom Tyson, James Harmes and Dean Kent after interrupted pre-season programs due to injury.”

Others who have been in rehab and who will play are Sam Weideman (ankle surgery) and Joel Smith (broken leg).

However, Jack Viney who was at one stage expected to play in this game, has been ruled out.

I look forward to reports from those who can make it down to Casey Fields.

I went to the Casey Demons website to see if there were any updates or team lists available as I was tossing up whether to go to the game.

I discovered that the Casey Demons website is no more - I was redirected to a page on the melbournefc.com.au website which covers Casey Demons news but nothing much really on the team side of things and certainly nothing on the practice match series.

Hopefully, things will change once the season starts.

I'm thinking about heading down there.

This is pretty poor. The week before the season starts and there is no notification of a reserved practice match that starts in 2 hours.

Thanks to KC for doing his best to notify us

Someone took a strong mark in the forward line and goaled.

Hope it was the Weid !

Casey score another goal after the siren and lead by 33 points at half time

Casey Dominating play but didn't make the most of the wind in the first qtr but a flurry goals late in the second qtr as well as a goal on the siren means Casey actually won the second qtr into the breeze.    Wind is very strong which is affecting the quality of the game.

Pathetic that not Casey or the Dees website haven't even bothered to advertise this match on either website on starting times and match updates.

Shows how light years away we are from competing with the best in terms of off field communication.

Harmes, Tyson, Jetta all playing and are dominating.   Casey have 3 players on the bench who haven't come on so I am expecting some players won't play the second half.

About 10 or so listed players playing.

Looks like we've poured all our social media resources into the Women's match today.

It's pretty poor that we couldn't even send the work experience kid down there with his iphone and the twitter password.

Is Bocky full of Hawks players today?

This grade of footy (VFL/Seconds) is a priority to analyse and watch - we must generate comms so that we can internalise what otherwise might be a past event. Never watch, listen to or evaluate the women's game anyway. Does not have the same significance.

No Viney is a bit concerning. Any news on that front?

How’s that rock you’ve been living under going?

I looked up Box Hill Hawks on twitter and they’re covering the game with Casey 9.13.67 leading Box Hill 4.2.26.

Jetta, Garlett, Harmes, Weideman, Frost, J & T Smith, Kent and Tyson on the field in the first half at least.

How is Kenty going? Like his aggression and speed. Tim Smith - above VFL standard or struggling?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
