Happy Birthday Pig

Featured Replies

We've done some stinking bad drafting and trading over the last 10-15 years, but getting Hibberd for a second round draft pick would have to go down as one of the best trades in recent of years, of any club.

I wonder how many other traded players got an AA in their first year at his new club.

The question now is whether he can maintain his form over the next 3 years or if 2017 was his peak.

Imagine if Essendon still had Hibberd, Ryder and Carlisle.. Geeez.

Then they’d probably be over the cap

it really pisses me off that they made the finals and we missed out. It's laughable that they think they're in premiership contention.

Quickly became one of my favourite players:

Yep, up the favourite players ladder, mighty fast. Fair, creative, driven, hard-working, effective, team man, short recoveries, fast hand and foot teamwork, covering for an immobile fullback. reliable. How far can the accolades go? Happy birthday, Michael.

Don't forget how effective and unexpectedly creative/lethal young Melksham (again from the Dons) has become - and fairly consistently across a season, too.

Absolute bit of genius from the trading department to snare this gem of a player. Happy Birthday Hibbo.

Hibberd and Melksham more than handy and best of friends as well.

Let's hope our players feel the same way, especially about the bolded part.

Only no-one's laughing. It's alarming and disturbing.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
