I am 37 years old. Geelong was my wife's second team. My 6 year old daughter loved dogs in the finals last year. My son who loves Melbourne (Jack Viney),  now loves Tigers (Dusty). Even I feel hollow. How did we lose to collingwood!! The players, as a collective didn't want to win like richmond did.

Congratulated her was happy for her but put on a brave face. Was hard having to watch them celebrate with the cup afterwards. Surprised she didn't cry? If it was us I would of had tears as the club has put us through more than enough pain lately.

Gee I hope we have our day in the sun.Glad the season is over now hopefully we can better our list for next season and the players work on desire and playing with passion for longer periods.

Would like to thank the players who will be departing in a couple of weeks and warmly welcome the new additions. Amen

Feel the frustration & suffering member also .  Reality is tigers come 13th last year & lost by 100pts in the last game & they wanted to sack the coach & change the board ..  Tigers stars are in their late 20s vs ours barring Jones are in their early 20s ... still [censored] in missing finals but perspective  I guess . The era of 07-13 were diabolical in every way & perhaps no top 20 pick is still at out club bar Watts for now! Set our club back a decade & a complete rebuild has taken place & we forget its Goodwins 1st year vs Hardwick 8 seasons & players who have been around the same time.. Still [censored] as I'm the only person in my family & friends who has not seen there team win a flag! Only  Melb & Saints remain with the longest drought!

Top post.

I was in Primary School when Melbourne won their last Premiership. I have now retired. I went through secondary school and my whole working life never having the satisfaction of bragging to my mates on a Monday that my team 'won the flag'. I have inflicted upon my 5 children, 3 grandchildren and my wife with the pain of being a Melbourne supporter also. I have often felt guilty about that and 3 of my kids have been lost to football altogether, I believe because of years of humiliation. The club has even cruelly made me a supporter of Crystal Palace in the EPL because of a vague link between the 2 clubs in the 80's (hence my pseudonym). Palace currently sit last in EPL  0-7 not having kicked a goal for the season and having had 17 kicked against them.

So you see I have a PhD in Disappointment.

I visit Demonland so I know I'm not alone in my pain. I read comments that I can truly empathise with in the moment but detest in the cold light of day.  I laugh at myself and others that can/do/have bestowed various players with the title of champion, dud, gun, plodder, gutless, slow etc etc.  depending upon how they played on any given day.  I have threatened and come close to giving them and AFL away because it just hurts too much sometimes.  But I haven't - 38 years consecutive MFC membership.

A friend asked me once that they appreciate the attraction of AFL but couldn't understand the fanaticism of club supporters to their team. I hadn't thought about it myself but found myself answering that it's one of the few constants in life. Friends, partners, work mates and loved ones may come and go, whether we want them too or not.  Our football team may too - but it will be our choice.  We may abandon them through frustration but they will go on. Our fear is that if we do then we won't experience the ultimate satisfaction when success finally arrives. We will have put ourselves through decades of heartache without experiencing the moment of bliss we crave for and frankly deserve.

Read Long Walk to Freedom to fully appreciate true suffering and patience. Remember the incomparable joy and ecstasy on the faces of Bulldogs fans last year and now the Tigers.  They thought their day would never come too.  We need to have the faith and unwavering commitment we demand of our team, especially when things seem darkest - as they did for the Bulldogs and Tigers.

Go Dees!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
