No doubt he's a good VFL ruckman, but at 29 I think he'll get overlooked for sure. I doubt any club would want to try and integrate him into a full time system knowing he could only be there for 12 months, and if he came in then the younger rucks won't have the same development opportunities.

He absolutely flogged Spencer, and dominates the VFL.

I know Pedersen & TMac are currently Max's backup and taking into account King seems a long way from it, so as a rookie backup Meese may be worthwhile

Sounds like an Orren Stephenson situation.  Terrific at VFL level but couldn't make the cut at AFL level.  I don't see why Meese would necessarily be any different.

For a second I thought this was a John Meesen thread before the title was updated.

Dominated one pre-season game I saw, thought we had a winner.

In all honesty, I wouldn't mind him as a Rookie.  They say he's going to be a great ruck coach for starters.  He'd be great to help bring on the two youngsters, he'd dominate for Casey and if needed he could step in and ruck for the seniors.  There are worse ideas.

If we are drafting a ruck I would prefer a kid for now. I'm not looking for Max's backup, I'm looking for his predecessor.

If he goes down tmac and Pedders have it covered

You want to re-draft Jamar?

Well, he was all Australian....

Successor was the correct term for this one. If we can get someone in to take over the reigns from gawn in 5 years time that would be ideal.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
