If the Tigers play Adelaide in the GF, only one team has a traditional jumper and should wear it.

The thought of the made up team from Adelaide having a traditional jumper at this early stage of their lifetime is laughable. Next we will be talking about GWS's traditional supporter base or some such.

I'm not a Tiges fan by any means but the precedent needs to be set before we play our next one.

As we are the most traditional team in the competition, having founded it there should then be no argument against us wearing our traditional strip, the most traditional strip in the game.

    Hate to say it, but I use to experience a Demons/Crows clash (as one of the very few). If we were to meet them in the Granny and they finished above us, I would just have to suck it up I suppose. I'd rather not lose a coin-toss going in. But god forbid we win a flag wearing that white Bali monstrosity of this year.

    I loathe our white away strip and I feel for Richmond more if they have to wear the yellow over Adelaide having to wear their away strip. Having said that shouldn't the higher ranked team be given the choice considering that's how the finals system works in relation to "home" teams?

    Clash strips were not an issue for over a hundred years.

    We clash with Essendon and Carlton though. Unfortunately we just have design a better clash strip as this issue isn't going away.

    I agree, a reverse strip or even the pale blue if the 70s/80s would be prefer to the Bintang. Unfortunately the AFL told us some years ago that we can't have a red clash strip though now Essendon has one. Probably worth going back to them again as we all know they change with the wind.

    Rolling mauls and 36 players within 50m of goal were also not an issue for over a hundred years. The pace of the game is a lot faster too. Grounds are dry and player don't get covered in mud.

    But! Those are justifications and not real reasons. I have never heard a player say they got confused. The one and only was when the umps wore pink when we wore pink and our players were handballing to the umps.

    I think the white shorts for away is all that's needed, until it proves problematic. So far the reasons for away strips seems to be based on guesswork.

    I wonder who the AFL are doing this half-arsed clash jumper bizzo for. The players, the spectators, "theatre goers" who only watch on TV ... ? Want to copy the EPL? Want to sell more merchandise? I wonder if they know themselves.

    In typical AFL fashion, they don't have a real policy, it's all on the run and they play favourites at every turn.

    * clubs in dark jumpers sometimes play other clubs in dark jumpers. Usually ones that can make a lot of noise when their presidents are irritated.

    * EFC and Carl played each other and each time wore their usual jumpers and the away team wore white shorts.This did not seem to be a problem for anyone, including AFL house

    * C'wood get concessions that no other club gets.... their "away" jumper is a laughable "alternative" strip. Yet every sensible suggestion for (eg) MFC is shot down. Port have been shafted and they have a case that they're the older club.

    * "rules" for what avoids a clash are arbitrary. Red is a dark colour when you're an easily shoved around minnow, but not a dark colour when you're a big drawing favourite of headquarters.

     

     

    In summary: the AFL policy is no policy at all. If they want to go EPL on this, then decree that EVERY club must have an away strip for every away game. Mostly white. But simpler, more traditional, and hardly confusing, is to have every team wear dark shorts for home and white shorts for away.

     

    If there is a genuine problem on the playing field with that, the AFL won't have to wait long before some high profile presidents are screaming that it is a problem and it "could cost someone a grand final!!!"

    So far, not a sniff of that.

    Spot on. We have to push harder for an all red clash, OR I believe we should look at a light Blue and Red alternate. In EPL Football it is mandatory for each club to produce 3 kits. We have done this in previous seasons. We need to come up with 3 replicas of the traditional home jumper. One in White, one in either red (inverted) or light blue. It is that simple. Do away with the cheap training looking logo clash strip. They are putrid and it makes me barf seeing kids wearing them.

    A couple of times this year I turned on the TV to watch the footy.   I knew straight away who the home side was(Traditional jumpers)   but had to look closely to see who the side was that was mostly white   Was it Adelaide, Fremantle. Carlton,Port, Gold Coast?    Talk about confusing.   But we should know that the footy suporters are dumb and need to be led by the hand by the all wise AFL.   

    If they say we can't tell the difference.....Well who are we to argue.

    And Sorry we the MFC do not Clash with a Carlton or Essendrug Jumper

    that is why we should only ever wear the redback jumper if we ‘clash’

    Why can't we just have one jumper all navy blue and one that is all red ?

    I really like the Red Back jumper but I do not think that it satisfies the AFL's "clash" requirements.

    I understand your concerns. But all red doesn't really do it for me either.

    I want to be as close to our 'traditional' jumper as possible and a lighter blue could do that.

    If they go with a red jumper I hope they put some genuine thought into it rather than just slapping an emblem on it!

BUT. what if two teams met in the GF that joined the comp in the same year? coin toss? lol

    Clash Jumpers exist purely for extra marketing and sales

    The Clash exists because the AFL want to believe there is one

    HD Televisions exist 

    There is no clash

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
