All the Watts lovers are under an illusion that there is something more going on. They can't face the reality that he's been nothing more than a depth player for 9 seasons (1 decent season) and has been dropped most seasons because he doesn't go hard at the ball.

Not every player needs to be a Sherman Tank

the kicking into our forward line this year was average to poor

Losing Watts won’t help that area

For mine, the alarm bells have been ringing since our no 1 pick after having five or six years in the system, had to drop himself. How the f&$k does that happen.?? How about just work harder and get a bloody hard ball or two, it's not rocket science.

Jack played some good games this year, and some average ones. But his delisting has been quick and cold

something else is in the mix, i don’t know what it is. But i don’t believe what the media is saying either.

(2 strikes maybe....)

Usually agree with you SWYL, and respect your comments.

But that sort of innuendo has no place

Talking in the echo chamber that is this thread; I was always a huge fan of Jack's (as I am of all our players) but even after 9 years I still went to the game wondering if this would be Jack's breakout game.

The MFC is bigger than the individual. I am sure they are making the correcr decision. We dont know exactly what has gone on off-field. Obviously its not upto club standards.

I will back in Goody and the footy department.

If you listened to Goodwins B&F speech you would probably agree...

Whether it be Port or Geelong that he goes to there is a massive chance he doesn't make the cut at those clubs and is delisted and out of the game in 2 years.

And generally, SL, he was playing when you went to those games (meaning he was getting games!).

The club has clearly had enough.  So they should, and so should its supporters.

I've been a big Watts fan/defender for many years.  But, in the interest of both Jack and the MFC, it's time.  I will miss him, but feel that after about Round 5 in 2018, we'll be wondering why it took so long to do it.

You make a lot of sense

but what i don’t get is JW did a lot of servicable Ruck work this year when Max went down. And before his injury he was playing some good footy and kicking long goals.

For him to be on the outer so quick means he has done something we have not been told...

ahh the good old conspiracy theory - Elvis is still alive and living above a pharmacy with Amy Winehouse & Michael Jackson some where in the Caribbean. man never walked on the moon etc, etc, etc

Your sense of humour is second to none on this site, you are the Gatis Kandis of Demonland.

His performances during our 2 week regional back water tour of late July / early August were surely the final nails in the coffin.

Not even sure why they bothered bringing him back for the Collingwood rd 23 game if they were pushing him out of the door.

No idea. I still don't know why Blease and Tapscott didn't make the grade.

And didn't Prendergast promise Mr and Mrs Sloane that we'd pick his son up at 17 or 19. We proceeded to use those picks on Blease and Strauss. If that's not bad enough, we then chose Bennell at 36 while Sloan was still on the board.

Or what about a year later having 4 cracks at a National Draft in the top 20 and yet still not picking Fyfe (pick 20).

I'm not saying people are wrong for questioning FD decisions, but they have nothing on the line. So without evidence these serious allegations just show how out of touch people are. Why would they (the FD) sabotage their own jobs and reputations??

Exactly UH, I asked the exact same thing earlier in the thread (probably 100 pages ago now) and the only answer I received were some vague conspiracies with no tangible substance or clear arguments at all. Just waffle about "more going on than there seems" etc

Another question I had which went unanswered - some on here have said Jack was regularly ignored by teammates on the field after leading, making good position etc However they have also argued that Watts is universally loved by the players who will be unhappy with the decision to trade him which could lead to dissension among the ranks. So which is it? Do they dislike him and so don't kick it to him or his he well-liked by the playing group?

Well done Goodwin-you proved you can make the hard decisions.

Now get a flag or pack your bags.

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road again and this may be the last roll of the dice to get their 2025 season back on track as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
