Has merit but would it be our best option. Interesting and very doable.

Because our midfield still lacks depth. It'll be interesting to see if there's anything in this rumour from @Siren.

seriously? Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Jones, ANB, Vince, Lewis, Maynard and Balic to come in

IMO you need 8-10 better than C grade midfielders in a modern AFL midfield. You have to allow for injuries (we were nowhere when Viney and Jones went down in the space of two weeks) and form dips.

Petracca plays better midfield minutes when he's allowed to play mostly as a forward.

Brayshaw plays better midfield minutes when he's allowed to play mostly as a half back.

ANB is a cusp C grader and isn't in the same class as the majority of our other mids.

Vince and Lewis are almost done and mostly play half back.

Maynard is yet to prove himself at AFL level. One good game is not enough to base your list strategy on.

Balic...

I think we need 1, perhaps two more best 22 mids. Of course, you're leaving out Tyson, who I rate as a great accumulator and extractor, but I can't see how he fits into the team next year with our emphasis on being able to play forward or back as well as in the midfield. He is too slow to play forward and isn't a good enough kick to play back.

So we have some holes in our midfield.

I actually forgot to mention Tyson, Salem and Vanders in that group. On a whole aside from Lewis, Vince and Jones the oldest is 25. Besides those 3 + Maynard and Vanders the oldest is 23

Now the lever deal is done

Mahoney pretty well eliminating any chance of us trading for another player if I read him correctly, putting to bed any rumours that we are after someone else besides Balic who we knew of.

The clubs that have been linked to Schache are better off keeping their picks and cap space, and having a crack at Tom Lynch next year.

Brisbane aren't going to offload Schache in a fire sale, so there is a fair chance he'll stay.

That is clearly what he said....... but is it a ruse?

Did he mention anything about trying to upgrade our picks? We could end up with picks 27, 29, 35.

Unsure, was in the car and it kept cutting out. I was hoping we could get another player but all eggs have gone to Lever probably. If we get a trade for Watts we will have approx. 27, 29, 30, 35 ish. Would it be better to find some already established players than the draft? Anyway, in Mahoney we trust

So if Watts goes out, we'll suddenly have three second-round picks in a supposedly weak draft (and when we haven't participated in the second-round for half a decade)? Pick-swap. Our list space will give a clue as to which year.

What do you suggest for a pick swap? Anyone got any ideas?

Even trade one of our 2nd round pics this year to Geelong or Essendon for their 2nd rounder next year.

Vanders isn't good enough to play midfield IMO. He's a serviceable half forward on occasion though.

From all reports the 2018 draft is much deeper than this year, to the point that it's been suggested this years top 10 draftees would likely go in the 20's next year.

In any case, we've already given away next years first round and we don't want to the Hawthorn of 2017 who sold the farm to get O'Meara in 2016

We've all been guilty of that

Not trying to upgrade our pics. Going on what he said we r after Balic and that’s it.

He did mention that the Lever deal was fair for both parties. That I’m not too sure about. To me it just seemed they wanted the Lever deal done ASAP cause we wanted him.

Imo this may be why we gave the cows two fist rounders rather than wait it out.

Rayner and Davies-Uniacke would both go top 10 next year, possibly top 5.

On the MFC site he said in an interview when asked of Balic he said that there are other priorities for both clubs.  I took this to mean we were looking at other trades and that Balic would be steak knives at the end of the trade period when the dust had settled.

Unless I'm mistaken this is how it stands at the moment post Lever trade.

Three spots left on primary list: 28, 35, 46 (65,  83 pending further list changes)

Bring Balic in and we only have two however trading Watts out opens it up again.

Say Balic gets traded for 46 and Watts leaves for 30.

We go to the draft with 28, 30, 35. Can't help but feel we'll package those up for an earlier pick. We've said in the past we were done before pulling out a trade that no one was expecting so I'll be watching this space.

28, 30, 35 = 1828 points or the "afl equivalent" of between pick 5 and 6. Considering the supposed weakness of the draft I don't see any teams parting with a top 10 pick for that combo.

Looking at the draft order it's hard trying to see where a good package would come from in a direct swap that isn't somewhat lopsided, but perhaps something like Brisbane's 18 & 42 could work. Guess it all depends on how Taylor views this draft depth or if he has a target in mind that we need to trade up for.

Brisbane has pick 42

Pity Dean Kent hasn't seemed to attract any interest. I'd take a 3rd or 4th rounder and run. His lack of defensive pressure and general hardness doesn't suit the bash and crash Goody wants to play.

He did tear his hammy in 2016 executing a great tackle after a long chase. Goal kicking accuracy is his major weakness.

Yes, this is what I heard too. I think they possibly have another incoming besides Balic.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
