A good point then. I stand corrected, he was fit enough to play and didn't manage the stats of Oliver. Still, you could definitely argue the broken leg may have hampered his confidence.

No he actually broke his leg after a couple of games. Was dropped to the VFL after a couple of AFL games and whilst pushing to get back in broke his leg and wad out for a sustained period. May have played a couple of games late in his debut season. But IMO Oliver had more upside/potential than Crippsย

Thanks mate. Agreed. My only recollection of Cripps' first season was that he was dropped at some point and made no impact.

Just saw reports that he was spotted looking at houses in Elwood. apparently now St Kilda could become a serious contender for his services.ย

Surely we would be at least having a quite chat while he's in town?

Went to BGS so would want to live around ย family and friends. Not hard to travel to Arden street, Moorabin, Dingley or Swan Street from there.ย

Doubt we'd be prepared to pay as much as rumoured North have put out there, or have the currency the saints have. I think we're backing in our talent and will find role players rather than chasing something too expensive

I hope so. We are sorely lacking a Kelly. I would give up a dozen Melksham's for a Josh Kelly. I hope we go all out on Kelly, he is exactly what we need. We need more effective players. At present we have a lot of solid battlers. We need some class.

We can back our youth and still put in a reasonable offer for Kelly. There are a lot of passengers on this list. Get Kelly, then do some pruning. We overrated our list.

ย

Would be silly to knock back the offer from north imo, especially considering I think he'll be a premiership player by the end of this yearย

Mate,ย who the hellย knows what is rumour, half truth or full truth in these things. I agree we'll need to shore up our own talent first then trade for need. Having said that, if a guy like Kelly showed interest in us we'd be mad not to see if he and his priceย fitย our club. I have faith in Todd Viney, Mahoney, Taylor and Jackson to maintainย our list and finances within our means. We have gaps, one is a classy outside mid with leadership who can impose upon a game. IMOย Kellyย is that.

surely playing with his good mates Christian and Jayden would add another factor to his decision......

He is worth between 600-800k in a premiership side. $1m in a side that won't win a flag because they pay too much.

Which will it be....

If Hibbo and Melk are looked at as an 800k/yr package, then it really isnt a big deal for our club to offer 800 or more with front loading accounting creativity to get an A grade player like Kelly.

Forget Kelly Zac Jones is according to "On the Couch" out of contract at seasons end. Surely MFC would inquire to his availability. He is a better kick than his brother.

I'd be offering Kelly no more than $600k. Good player, could play an important role at Melbourne, but he's not worth paying anymore than that. $800k is absurd. That's a sure fire way to demolish all the good list management over the past 3 years.

Agreed. For that reason exactly I doubt we'd pursue Kelly.

Norf will offer him stupid dollars. We are back of the field in this race.

He would be a great get.

I'd certainly have a word with his management. We can offer a lot more than North in terms of top 8 potential and we're equally based in Melbourne, so if it's about a money increase and moving to Victoria, we can tick a couple of boxes. $600k is a lot more than he'll get at GWS.

Not according to the media. 750K is the expected offer from GWS.

From what I can remember,ย Melksham is on 400, Lumumba was on 500, and Bernie Vince got a lucrative deal for 2017.ย Josh Kelly is easily worth 800.

Prestia is on about that and Kelly is a thousand times better than him (which I guess you have nowย figured out ;)ย )

But it's clear North rate him a lot higher than we do, we have passed him up two times and they have publicly said they tried to get the mini draft pick we used on Hogan to draft Kelly.

They won't keep their list together GWS if they're offering a player like Kelly $750k. He's not a blue chip A grade mid. He's a silky outside mid who needs to play in a good team. He won't win you games. He'll help you win games.

Prestia has started poorly at Richmond, but is the best player IMO. :P

Undoubtedly if he came to us and said I'm happy to forego an extra $150k - $300k he might be able to get elsewhere and we didn't have to give to much to GWS then he'd be great, but I think he'll cost in excess of $800k a year and the trade would be our first this year plus decent extra's (a first 22 player or next years first etc.). Paying too much will hinder our chances of retaining all of Oliver, Tracc, Hogan, Salem etc. when they come out of contract next, because we have a few on the team that are shaping as deserving the bigger coin. We've seen the Hawks, Dogs andย Cats in recent times developย their own and (besides Boyd) not going chasing the big fish, but fitting role players around what they've got. I think we're much better to do that.ย ย ย

Can he ruck?

Remind me how many have won flags chasing a fish and a pay packet like that? Kelly has all the goods but is still relatively unproven. He plays in a team of champions so its hard to get a form line sometimes.

Two years ago, we gave a bog ordinary player in Melksham a 4 yr deal on between $400-450k, and you don't think that Kelly is now worth more than $600k? And don't get me started on the 3 year deal given to Garland.ย

Kelly is worth a minimum $800k once you factor in the impending salary cap increases with the new CBA.

As many have pointed out, as recently as last year with Boyd at Bulldogs. Arguably BOG.

With the new players agreement,ย $800k won't be a massive amount to pay an A grader (as obscene as that sounds).

Wouldn't want to pay overs, and is clear we must retain or young stars, but IMO Kelly would offer what what we clearly lack: very high end outside polish that can impose upon a game. I've watched a number ofย GWS games where he has done just that.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
