deelete my account 1,194 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 27 year old that has yet to re-sign at the Bombers. Has some line breaking pace that could push him past Stretch, Bugg and others in the pecking order. Averages 21 disposals a game over his career and 23 this year. If he still has his pace, he seems like a decent upgrade and maybe could come due to the Goodwin factor. Much rather Zak Jones due to his massive upside, but if he stays in Sydney and speedy midfielders are sparse in the trade period, why not target Zaharakis? http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/D/David_Zaharakis.html What does DL think?

Gator 18,053 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Btw, 6 contested possessions per game ? Snigger.
P-man 13,367 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 He's in an okay patch of form but Bomber supporters have bemoaned his lack of consistency for years. He'll have the odd very good game but the body of work isn't that impressive. As depth you'd consider him but I certainly wouldn't be jumping out of my skin.
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 IMO he has very little to offer beyond what we already have on our list. I'd rather use the list space on a 'smokey'in the draft.
Demon Disciple 12,537 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Would rather pay twice as much for Zak than go after Zaka.

Stretchyourself 42 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Not a bad idea for mine. We got plenty of hard nuts so don't really mind if he's not ferocious at the footy. He does go in when needed though? I love Billy and hope he comes on even more (still very skinny - will keep developing no doubt). But that outside silky ball user would be ideal. I think Joel Smith could be that player in time as well. Hunt on the other wing.. Would love another deadly line-breaker!
Wiseblood 24,637 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 This off season we should only be looking at players who will either be best 22, or add some depth on the cheap. Zaharakis is neither. We don't need to be looking at players like him.

I want to add as well - if you don't know much about him other than his stats, which you show by asking his he still has his pace, why would you suggest he is worth targeting? It makes little sense to me. It's as if you've seen an article that says he is out of contract and decided he is worth looking at even though you don't know a whole lot about his current abilities outside of how many possessions he averages. Strange.

I didn't know that he only averaged 6 CPs a game but that is not a great stat for him. So, yeah, nah.

Strange. I'm sure you've seen Zaharakis play over the years and play very well on occasion. I admit to not watching Essendon much this year and sparsely over the years (Why would I want to really?) - But I do recall that he has scintillating speed and even tore us a new one in our Salem-match winner game. "If he still has speed" pertains to whether he'd still be a fast line-breaker from the age of 28-31 if he was offered a three year incentivised contract

Too inconsistent and brings little to our current midfield.

daisycutter 30,021 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 2 minutes ago, Demon Jack said: Six contested possessions per match is hardly a ringing endorsement for a midfielder. well he is predominately an outside mid which many here say is what we need, so avg 6 tackles per game is not bad i'm not saying yeah as i haven't followed him closely but an outside mid with good skills would be nice
Gator 18,053 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Let me put Zaharakis' 6 contested possessions in context. Jimmy Toumpas was let go by the MFC on the back of him not being able to win contested footy. Jimmy averages a woeful 27.7% of his footy as CP. Juniors with low percentage CP often fail to get drafted for this reason alone. Zaharakis averages 25.3% of his footy as CP. Worse than Jimmy. It's a damning stat and not the current brand of the MFC.
whatwhat say what 23,863 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 he's had an absolutely outstanding last 10 or so weeks he's got a helluva lot more contested football in that time, and is using it well into the bargain is he restricted or unrestricted?

Over his last 10 weeks he is averaging 7.7 contested possessions so, no, he is not getting a 'helluva' lot more. As PD says above, he is not the type of player the new Melbourne needs.
