BCNA Pink Lady match this weekend

Not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere and it really deserves its own thread but this game against Hawthorn is the Pink Lady Match supporting the BCNA. There will be 1000's of Pink Lady silhouettes planted in Yarra Park and it is a very moving site. I looked at the MFC web page and could not find it mentioned anywhere but found it on the BCNA page. I am hoping it gets more publicity as the week rolls by. It is very close to my heart as I lost my Mum to breast cancer nearly a year ago. If you are at the game, please make a donation. Every cent counts.

Cheers Jane.  The seeming lack of publicity is disappointing.

I assumed it was the game vs the Bulldogs, like other seasons.

So the Dees wil be in pink and blue.

Hope the moron in charge of umpire attire doesn't repeat the idiotic call and put them in pink too, as they did all those years ago when it cost us a rare Friday night game vs Dogs. Wouldn't be surprised actually  if they did.

Will be in pink Lewis had the jumper on AFL360, but was never spoken about I wouldn't have known this was the bcna game this week if I didn't see it on AFL360 so the media coverage of it I would assume will pick up as the week goes on it is only Tuesday

Find it particularly odd its been handled this way. Just thought it would be the Doggies game for some reason.

Poor effort

Really disappointing how we've dropped the ball on this. Not only MFC but the AFL as well. It's not only a fund-raiser but a vehicle to continue to raise awareness.

Cricket Australia by comparison continue to do a brilliant job through the McGrath Foundation via the Sydney Test.

The first couple of years that MFC had this an outstanding job was done. Maybe if we're not gonna be fair dinkum about it, we should pass it to a club that will. Poor.

I'm intrigued about this game. What's our connection to the BCNA? Why are the MFC the common element of the BCNA games?

One of my best friends works for the BCNA and I'm seeing her this weekend at the game, so I'll ask her, but in the meantime, does anyone else know?

From memory, it's always been a game against the Bulldogs. Why has it changed to a match between us and Hawthorn?

It should be a night game against the bulldogs. The pink lady lit up a few years back a the G was a great sight.

The Dees and the Dogs were the pioneers of the woman's game and had this built up for a few years and was a recognisable game on the calendar. I feel we have dropped the ball a bit here and as mentioned above with the pink test it's something we could have built up into a showcase.

They could have even had a women's exhibition match. Dogs v Dees or even an all stars game or women's state of origin.

Should be a blockbuster raising money for a good cause and the profile of our club.

I have a feeling the Field of Women might be a different event...

My wife and I lost a friend of  ours a few years ago to Breast Cancer so we make a point of going to these games.

I too have not been able to find out anything about it. The BCNA website says all proceeds from GA tickets go to BCNA, and you can click a link to buy BCNA GA tickets, but you can't get any childrens tickets through there. Then if you find some other way to the ticketek website you can get GA and Children's tickets but it doesn't say anything about BCNA...

The main Field of Women night match is every second year. In between (this year) there's a match like this week's but it's more a fundraiser.

This year we only play the Bulldogs in Round 13 at Etihad.

Surely there is enough interest in this to do every year.

I think it was a joint decision by Melbourne and BCNA to make it every second year to make it a more special event.

I agree that there hasn't been much coverage and it being the BCNA match for the year. There should be plenty of spruiking to get people donating and wearing pink at the game.

Jordan Lewis wore the pink polo on AFL 360 last night and they displayed the jumper that will be worn this weekend. He also mentions it in his article about the ridiculous out of bounds rule, declaring that his wife lost both grandmothers to breast cancer so it is an issue close to his eart. The function at the G is a "High Tea" at 1.30 in the Harrison Room Sunday.

The resources of BCNA to promote the event are not limitless. Every two years is enough for them, without taking away from their main purpose which is to support women with breast cancer.

Has anyone got a photo of this year's jumper? Didn't see it on 360

Here's a terrible youtube quality picture

Thanks. Not bad. Just a side point though. 6 rounds in, how many times have we worn our traditional home strip so far?? 3 out of six? I can think of four different jumpers we have worn this season and it's Rd 7.

You're not wrong on that, it seems that seeing our boys in the traditional good old red and blue are becoming something of an event.

That said this is a fantastic cause and I'm glad we are doing what we can to help, as long as the umpires don't go pink again (I still can't fathom that one!).

Also heard that Jayden Hunt will be wearing a pink headband and will also be auctioning it off after the game.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
