Maybe, but not really. Adelaide could've matched the contract so really they had just as much leverage then as they do now.

If correct, its good to see mfc protecting our 2018 picks (said to be a very good draft vs 2017).

Rubbish. Scott Thompson came good before he went to Adelaide. We developed him and nursed him through injury. Everyone knew he was going to be a star especially Daniher.

Scott played every game in 04 until he got injured,  but played only 27 of the previous 66 and my recollection is that he was no fan of Daniher. He played several reserve games, but yes did have some injury concerns.  I recall at the time that many were sceptical of the illness reason used for him to go home. My apologies to Scott if it was true, but many at the time thought it was untrue. You may have some more info on that. I think the info at the time was that his mother was unwell, but again you may have more info on that.

I remember talk at the time that he wanted to be away from Daniher.

Think we might have to give up more than pick 10 but I don't want it to be much more.

I'd try to keep next years first off the table, but at the same time I wouldn't want to give up 2nd round picks either so it's a tricky one. We have to give Jason Taylor some ammunition in the draft.

I'd probably be willing to add 2018's first round pick for Adelaide's pick this year or next year but that would be a gamble. A couple of second round pick shuffles might be the safer bet. Or maybe we give the Saints something small to move pick 10 to 7 or 8 and then that satisfies the Crows.

The big question might be what other business do we have in trade week and if the answer is nothing major then we can bit very patient. The last few years Mahoney has always stressed the importance of locking in deals early to allow some more movement with other players but I'm hoping we don't trade anyone out and I don't think we'll be trading anyone major in if we get Lever.

If that could be negotiated down to 10 & 45 for Lever, we'd be laughing.

10 and 45 for Lever, 35 and 53 means we get lever for less than our first round pick. Would be astounded if that happens. 10 and our 2nd rounder for Lever and 35 or 53 is closer to the mark, I would have thought

Demons working on multi deals. Won't consider 1st + 2nd rounders for Lever.

Has anyone heard any beauties coming from Crows fans in what they should get in return if Lever does choose to come to us?

My favourite is " they should give us Oliver or Petracca otherwise Melbourne can go and get f****d!"

It's the water

From the article:

"ADELAIDE ... want two first-round draft picks ...if he seeks a trade back to Victoria".

"Some observers, however — and it is safe to say Melbourne will agree — argue that Lever isn’t worth two first-round choices".

"Another option ...would be to give up two first round picks and receive a decent pick back, or to give up a first rounder and then swap picks".

That is pretty much as @Judd's Granny describes.

The article also says that Coll has dropped out of the race. :)

If a trade doesn't involve a third club there is a fair chance it will be done early in the trade period which starts on October 9 (if he decides to come to us).

I'm starting to get my hopes up!

Thanks for the info. Any clue as to the other deals?

Willing to bet that dear old Granny turns out to be completely full of it. Seen this movie a dozen times before. Makes up enough detail on the rumours to just sound plausible, when the inevitable gets done but not exactly as described, it's ooh, we/they gave in and agreed in the end to get the deal done. It's directly out of the GNF playbook.

Time will tell though.

Haha, yep. I'm getting Riddler (without the riddles) vibes!

Wonder if they literally mean two first round picks or if the mean pick 10, plus another first round pick.  Could we, for example, trade down our pick 10 to pick 17 before we forward it to Adelaide with next years..??

Quite possibly, but I'm happy to run with it until he/she gets blown out of the water and in the absence of Nudge / CB.

Not much else on offer eh

I loved Nudge because his lies were outrageous and clearly ridiculous. I'm bored to death with the BS artists. Maybe I've been here too long.

Now if the pies have dropped out ... which other clubs are we competing with ?

Sounds like the only competition is Adelaide. I have no inside info, but my gut is telling me we'll eventually pay two first rounders, we're just playing hardball at the moment.

If Collingwood paid this for Treloar, then he is worth it

Lever won't have that much effect if our mids are being towelled up because we haven't landed another mid to relieve the pressure from a 22 game season on our younger mids and near-retirees. Keep another first and use it to bring a non-vfl player into the middle or at least a decent first round pick that can bring some youth and excitement into our club the following year.

Nudge/Chilli Boy was a ripper and clearly went for quantity over quality. I was always saddened when he would disappear after about 5 minutes of posting gems when someone annoying would call him out and he'd vanish in a huff.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
